what is the widest tire i can mount on a rim that is 17x8?

recommended size is 235mm but you can fit a 245mm safely on an 8" width. Depending on the offset you may or may not have any rubbing problems.

cool, does anyone on here have that size and pics of it? i want to get the adrwheels kasai 17x8 with some kumho 245/40/17. how would this affect handling and acceleration?

Heavier wheels = slower acceleration. If it's only a few pounds more, it's not a big issue. If the wheels are 27-30+ lbs each, then you'll really notice the difference.

wider tires = more grip. but... I'm not a fan of the Kumho 712s.

not a 17 but on a 18

I have a 245/40 18 on my car and here is the picture to show you the width



I have intrax and koni setup

I have heard if go to big you can put more miles on the car.Say if before bigger tires/wheels some place can be 10 miles after new tires/wheels can be 20 miles or something like that is any truth in this and how big of a change for this to happen

IF YOU HAVE A LARGER DIAMETER WHEEL ON YOUR CAR YES IT WILL THROW OFF YOUR SPEEDOMETER, BY READING LESS MILES. NOW IF YOU HAVE LITTLE WHEELS AS IN LIKE 225/40 18 IT WILL BE LIGHTER AND YOULL BE PUTTING MANY MILES ON YOUR CAR. A SMALLER WHEEL HAS A SMALLER OVERALL DIAMETER. THATS THE REASON WHY THEY PUT SMALLER PULLEYS ON A SUPERCHARGER TO GET MORE BOOST RIGHT TO SPIN THE LARGER PULLEY MANY MORE TIMES.

larger rolling diameter results in lower-than-actual-mileage, not higher. When you're within 1-2% of the factory specs, it should not be a problem for speedo error.
