For all of you that are familiar with the stock 97 SE wheels (16 inches, 5 spoke), I am having problems cleaning the crevices that are located on each spoke. They are almost impossible to get at except with a q-tip. There is some really nasty grime (tar?) in there and wheel cleaner won't get it out. I have some Engine Brite which did wonders in my engine bay but I'm afraid its going to hurt the wheel. PLEASE HELP.

Hey, don't fret, I was worried about that right away. This is what you do. Get some armorall tire and wheel cleaner. Not the extreme tire shine, but the cleaner, it comes in a grey bottle. Spray it on the rims, let it sit for a minute or two. Alrite, now, after a minute. Use your fingers, and rub the rim, the brake dust just wipes right off. You will be able to see the spots that need to be rubbed. After that, just spray em off. Also, if the stuff isn't rubbing off. Spray the rims with a little water, to keep them wet. It takes me about 10 minutes, and they look BRAND NEW. I am serious. This is the only thing you need to do.

Thanks for the advice guys but I used the armor all wheel cleaner (grey bottle) and it didn't work. I seriously think that there is tar in the crevices of all my wheels. I went to my friends detailing shop and used their professional wheel cleaner and it still didn't work. I think I'm going to try this engine degreaser stuff I have, I hope it doesn't damage the wheel!

Simple green and a tooth brush.

If that doesn't work, try some auto body prep cleaner.
