I'm thinking of getting the JWT ECU to take off the speed limiter and raise the rev limit; however, Cattman's website claims that the ECU also provides "big hp and torque gains up to about 5k rpm." Is this just salesman-speak or is there some basis to this claim?

If all you want to do is remove the speed limiter, you dont have to buy a new ECU.

Looks easy enough. Will this work on my 99 SE too? I've never gone over 85mph, but I'd like to know I could go over 115 if I needed to.

Your SE doesn't have a speed limiter.

You never need to go over 115. Never.

Is there a JWT website? How can I get my ECU done?

yeah, there is no need to go over 115 at all. even if racing it is stupid to go that fast, one little turn of the wheel and you will be dead. Just thought id share my opinion, Take Care

Speed is not an offense... it's a way of life....

I opened mine up one day just to see and I had to let up on the gas at 120+mph... I was on a very long, flat straight road... things come at you very quickly at 120....

Speed

I've done 132, it is different.
Someone has a sig that says,
"Speed kills,so buy a Honda and live forever."

I'm guessing that fifth gens don't have a speed limiter, cause I got up to 135MPH (stupid!) this past weekend with a fifth gen GLE maxima.

The good news was that we were dead even the entire time from 75+

Before my GForce ECU I could hardly stay at 120mph in my 96 GXE/Auto... after the ECU installed I did 135+ (very very scarrrrrry,... don't try)

I almost got 140 before I shut down a couple of weeks ago...it wasn't all that traumatic.

Question

For you 5sp Maxes:

I did a top end run this weekend and shifted early @ 6100rpm from 4th to 5th because it seemed like I wasn't moving any faster than about 122. Then in 5th, I started to slowly climb to 137. Is this what you all experience? I'm just comparing to my Prelude VTEC which hit 140 with the same urgency as if in 4th. I remember someone replacing the fuel filter and made their car pull harder.

Just curious.

??

how often do you all go fast? 120 is like a daily run for me hehe... I got pulled over when I was racing a friend in a avalon.. I had him, but had my spedometer over the 140 mark.. it's not scary... it feels the same as 90 to me.. just be SUPER alert b/c yeah everything is coming twice as fast...

I have not top speeded since i converted to 5spd, but have had it waaay up multiple times, not scary at all and pulls MUCH stronger.. btw, I broke 140 w/ my auto '95se about 9 months ago...

I'd do Gforce ECU if I were you, I have heard great things -

Speed/rev limits

I have an I30t. How do I know if I have that limiter on it. I've had it up to around 120, and rpms near 7(little in the red)

Man, you guys are crazy to go that fast. I can imagine doing it on a track, but not on the open raod. But I guess everyone has their thrill moments that they feel they need to take.

your not going to believe this

BUT.....
My car runs smoother at 100 than it does at 75, the engine starts to sound out a little more. but the over all ride... way smoother
