Anyone try 100 octane racing fuel in thier Max?... I found a regular "gas station" that carries it and wondered if the are any benefits/consequences to using it easpecially when it costs $3.95/gallon.

it makes you think your car will go alot faster when in fact all the gas pumps feed off one big tank

Nissan recommends 91 Anti-Knock Index gasoline for the 4Gen Maxima. Use of fuels with a lower AKI results reduced engine power and increased fuel consumption. Use of fuels with a higher AKI results in no gains of any kind. It is a waste of money.

100 AKI fuel may be needed for engines which have been modified in some way. In general, the higher the compression ratio, the higher the AKI requirement is.

The earliest car engines had low compression ratios because the fuels then available had low AKI. For example, the Ford Model T had a compression ratio of only 3 to 1. Of course, the people who used a hand crank to start those engines were glad the CR wasn't any higher.

Using gas with octane ratings higher than what the maker's recommendation is, will yield NOTHING in the way of performance.

Racing fuel also has the potential to clog your cat and coat your 02 sensor.

Do what you will, you have been warned

Well i was curious so i asked the guy working there he said he drove a modded wrx and he added half and half of the racing and unleaded fuel....he said it gave him an instant feel and was like pushing around "20 hp" aka he wants to sell some gas......and he said if u tried it u would feel it.....but 3.95$ gallon is outta my budget so who ever tries it please post resultsss......but dont add a full tank of that or it wont be nice....your cylinders wont be able to handle all that pressure

Re: here you gooo

Well we do have Hi-Compression engines, hence the fact we are recommended to use premium gas. My sis has used the crappy regular for about 4 years on her max, and everything is fine.

IMO, using a less-than-premium grade of gas only effects performance, b/c her car has been fine ever since she first used the crappy 86 octane.

But, yea, anything above 93octane is a waste. You can't "gain" performance with premium, but you "lose" it when you put lower octanes in.

Either way your maxima should be a-ok.

I used to live at a high altitude, we were told be infiniti to use 89 octane, because the air was thinner... why?
