Have any of you noticed that after you installed your new blue lights for your windows switches that the color is actually a slight purple. Well, this didn't go well with me. So I went to RadioShack.com (not an internet site), a different company than Radioshack, and bought some different leds. These are a TRUE blue. I used the weakess (in brightness) blue LED in the passenger doors and in the three passenger window controls in the driver's window switches. Then I used the next brighter blue LED in the lock, window lock, and driver's side window switch. This made a perfect perfect combo. I will get pics soon. Also, since I changed out my A/C LEDs with the same color, I know have blue LEDs there as well. Let me know if any of you are interested in them. I will get you a phone number for Radioshack.com and the part numbers for the LEDs. Later all.

Hey I responded in the audio section but in case you read this first. I am interested in what you're doing. I am installing blue leds in the dash switches on my 95 $E. I don't mind Radioshacks purplish blue lights. I think they look great. The one that gets used for the security light though is a nice true blue like you mention. It is also super bright with a 2600 mcd rating. For comparison the window switch leds are rated at 300 mcd. I am going to use some of the security leds to make a dome light. The blue bulb I have is a really cool blue, but it doesn't cast light. It only looks blue if you look at it.
So please, any info. on RadioShack.com would be appreciated. By the way, did you do the switches? ie hazard, defroster, etc.?

Actually, the lights behind the hazard switch and the defroster switch are regular lights, with those little condom thingies on them. But these lights are incredibly small. I just got back from RadioShack.com, and they now carry 3mm blue LEDs, which are slightly smaller than the regular 5mm ones. But I have yet to try them out to see if they emit a good true blue color.

Toolrocks: When you get done with your LED dome switch, give me some info on what is needed to do this. I am interested in doing this. And if you can do that, than you can probably do the door lights that come on whenever you open the door. That would be pretty sweet. I will post the phone number shortly, thanks all.

Just to let you know, I have been able to install 5mm leds in the 4 switches mentioned. Everything clears fine. It is a little involved. Similar to the security led rewire. The only thing is that the switches are running at 12vdc and the highest rated led I've found so far is 5V so I am seriesing a resistor in with each switch. There is no room inside the switch for the resistor, so I am placing it in the wiring about and inch back from the switch. I will have to put one of these resistors on each of the four switches. Look at the 'blue leds my .......' post. That is where I have been putting up my experiences with these switches so far.
Also, yes I will let you know about the dome light, and I too, plan to do the step lamps at the bottom of the doors. CYA

Slight purple?

Well, I don't know if I'd go so far to say that these bulbs are a slight purple. In terms of the color spectrum, they're probably leaning a little toward the purple zone. It seems rather subtle to me, so after my first LED installation test I continued to do them all. It looks pretty sharp--I'll post pics soon.

But I'm certainly interested in additional sources for useful LEDs. This is strange--a store called "RadioShack.com" that isn't on-line? Rather ironic, given that ".com" implies an internet store. And you'd think there would be a trademark infringement issue with Radio Shack. Where are these guys located? Do they distribute catalogs?

Yeah, I gotta agree with Gary. It does seem odd - that store name, but it is always nice to have more options. I've finally finished my switchs (i got 22 switchs for all my bit<hs) I still haven't tackled the dome or door lights but will definitely post once I do. (maybe next week) I've been cleaning Radioshack out of leds lately. hAHA. I should have bought their stock.
Also, Ramius can you shoot me a pm or something. I am curious to know about your A/C lights. Your set up sounds different from mine and oh yeah, your car looks sweet.

i also am doing the window lights, and i must say they do look good. i am trying to put together an order for all the lights that i will need for the console lights and the door lights and the dome lights. if we could compile a list of what we have found, that would be most helpful.... radioshack is sometimes lacking and expensive (the blue bulbs cost $3 a piece). i just checked the door light and it might be a tough one to find, it clips into some forks and is rated 12v and 2.7watts. thanks guys!

I asked a clerk at the Radioshack.com and they are apart of Radioshack, but kinda like a sister company, running under a SIMILAR name. It is odd because the RadioShack catalog numbers are TOTALLY different than the catalog numbers for Radioshack.com. All is good. I am going back shortly to get the exact LED numbers. Later all.
