I am getting my Boston speakers installed this Friday, and I was wondering whether I should use the factory grilles or the Boston Grilles. If I use the Boston grilles will there be any extra screw-holes or marks from the previous ones? I had the factory non-Bose system.
Thanks,
Cyrus

If I were you, I would keep my stock grilles, I think it would look cleaner. Just my .02 though.

When I replaced my speakers, I kept the stock grills for the midrange, but replaced the grills on the tweeter.

If you're just getting the speaker, then don't go through the trouble of replacing the grill. I mean the tweeters weren't too bad, but the main door grills would have been a pain.

Re: mb quartz

as far as i know the grills are different sizes.. stock grill are not for 6.5's atall.. and when speakers come with tight fit grills youd have to have the door reupholstered.. as far as tweeters.. definately replace those

Definitely keep your stock grilles on. Bostons have different size grilles and they won't fit properly in the back and on the doors. There will be screw holes exposed and weird track marks from the old ones if you put the Boston ones there. I had to make this decision when I got Bostons and after looking at it with the Bose one off and the Boston, there was just no second guessing it.

Thanks

I wasn't originally going to replace the stock tweeter grill to prevent extra attention to them. But the way the stock tweeter was mounted was a little strange, so I just decided to use the MB Quart grills.

Replacing the grills in your car with aftermarket grills will drawn added attention to "other" people. I've known people who have gotten there speakers stolen cause of this.
When was the last time someone tried to steal stock speakers?

Speaker Grilles...

Thanks for all the help guys. Can I just leave the grilles off and put the screws from the factory grilles back in? Would that just plain look tacky? Thanks in advance,
Cyrus

The grills are part of the door cover in the front, and are attached to the rear panel piece in the back?
Have you tried to replace the speakers?

The stock grills have no screws at least not that I can remember. Maybe your car is different. If you remove the door panel the grill are attached to that and they don't require any screws.

The only screws needed are the ones to put the speakers in.

RE: Breaux124

So if I put on the new grilles the only difference is that I will have a slight carpet line where the old speaker grilles used to be in the rear and they will not be the triangular shape in the front? Thanks again,
Cyrus

I think the stock grills are larger than most aftermarket grills. I don't think it'll look right.

I would save myself the hassel and just put the speakers in with the stock grills. I'm not sure how much would be involved in fitting the aftermarket grills.

I looked at my car and in the front it looks impossible, unless you do alot of work to the door, or let it look like cr@p.

RE: Speaker Grilles...

Maybe I'll just take advise from Mike (my installer). He does hundreds a week so he should probably know best right? Anyways, thanks Breaux124 you made me consider more carefully.

yeah listen to the installer

I replaced the grills in my old car, and they just never looked right. Go with what the pro says.

yeah they are good. It also depends on what level you bought. If they sound good, that's all that matters.

In my car(s), I've gone from stock, to sony, to infinity, to OZ, and now to MB Quart. I can hear subtle differences that make me want the upper level speakers.

Play music without much bass, and then some with strong bass at normal volume. Then do it again at a higher volume. Do the highs crack? Do the speakers bottom out? It also depends on other things like power and crossover points and signal level. So many things affect the sound of a speaker.
