As Turbo95Max and I were working on my car this weekend, I noticed what seemed like remains of a bushing underneath my car near the rear right control arm. That part was COMPLETELY torn up! Needless to say, that part needs to be replaced. I dunno what that thing is exactly but it did look like remains of a bushing. I'll go over to Nissan soon and have one of their guys look at it for me. Anyway, could that damaged piece have been the cause of all the clunking sounds I've been hearing for the past 6 months? I'll sometimes hear the sound when I drive over bumps. The sound does seem to come from that area of the car where that damaged bushing thingy is. I always thought it was part of my exhaust pipe hitting the car. I didn't know that bushing-looking-thingy was damaged until this weekend! BTW, the clunking sound is more predominant whenever people sit in the back. It's really bad when there's 3 people in the back...I'd drive over a little tiny bump...& then "CLUNK!" Thanks in advance for your thoughts and whether you know what that damn part is.

A worn bushing in the suspension could account for "clunk" sounds, especially when riding on a bumpy road. I'm puzzled by your mention of "the right rear control arm". 4Gen Maximas have a beam-type rear axle which does not use control arms.

Got a popping sound.

I just put the Eibach/Tokico combo on my '96 SE. I'm hearing a popping sound coming from the rear tire on the pass. side. I put the car over my pit but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. It happens the most when I go over uneven ground like pulling in/out of a parking lot. It's really starting to get annoying.

My 96 Max had a popping sound driving into and out of driveways and it turned out to be the grey sheetmetal panel
behind the rear seat back. Some of the screws were loose.
Sounded just like suspension noise. Worth a look.
