I installed a RT cat a few weeks ago, and the other day my MIL came on and gave me a 0707 code...Rear O2 sensor.

I remember reading somewhere that this is not really a problem, just a "misinformed" reading by the ECU because of the new cat.

What exactly causes this? Is the MIL going to come on now every once and a while, or was it just a one time thing?

rear o2 sensor is not that important. Unlike the front one, it is not involved in how the ecu calculates things(air/fuel ratio-lean-rich). According to the shop manual, it is only for diagnostic purposes reporting purposes when hooked up to a machine. Maybe you can just pull it out, re-wire the wires to some steady signal, in the process, you would be removing a slight obstruction from your exhaust.

Well...

I got a code of 0702 when I put my "test pipe" on. That code is for the catalyst. A code for the O2 sensor may not come back. If it keeps comming on you could try to leave the battery disconected for an hour to let the ECU reset. Or mabye your rear sensor is on its way out. How many miles do you have on your Max. Their are ways to test the sensor with a volt-o-meter, I cant recal them maybe some one with a factory service manual could post the procedure. But if it doesnt come back on dont worry about it

Well, my car has 62500 miles...

BUT, the rear O2 sensor was replaced right after I got the car...about 8k miles ago...so I really don't think its the problem.

Like I said, I know I heard that this happens to a lot of people, I actcually knew what the code was going to be before it checked it.

I reset the ECU the way described in the Service Manual.

I guess I will just wait and see...

Thanks

i replaced my cat under warranty

I had my 1st one on in November 99 and then in the spring the MIL started going off on a weekly basis.

So i went back to stock and just reinstalled a new rt cat last week. So far the MIL did not go off yet. From what i heard is that one of the chambers in the cat went bad. Call Clay at RT 770-554-4242 and he can exchange it for you.
