Use 168's, that's what I did. They are much brighter than the 194's. and the fit in the same way

Yeah but do they get hotter the 194's... Because thats what I'm worried about, I don't want to melt anything. How long ago did you install the 168's. and do you notice any damage at all. Does anyone know if this is completey safe. Because i'm gonna do it today....

No they do not run hotter. I've had mine in for over 2 months with no problem. The 168's run a 5watts. The 194's run at 3.5watts. That isn't much of a difference. Plus OEM isn't that bright. I have not noticed any downside to adding the higher wattage bulbs. But the plus side is that they are much brighter and they don't washout as bad when light is shined on it in the dark.

Here is a pic of my 168's in my dash

Interesting... I've checked out a few sites and haven't seen 168's. Where did you find them? I wonder if they come in a bluish-white color. The pic of your dash seems to be pure white.

I got my 168's from PEP BOYS. I love in DC. I'm not sure where you would be able to get 168 blue in your city.

I got 194 Xeon but this is 5W and looks reeeeeally cool at night.
I once thought about putting 18W 168 on my dash...but I didn't because it's 90W in total.
Think about it! 90W? hell no...

I do know that the 4th gens take 6 bulbs (30 watts total), and the 3rd gens uses 4 bulbs (20 watts total). 18 watts is pushing it by alot  I do believe when I was upgrading my dash lights, I guy on the 4th gen fourm told me about the #168 bulbs. And he said that he had luck with them. I can't remember his name. But at the time he said that he had in bulbs in for months. And to this day I don't recall him saying that he had any problems. I've had my bulbs in for months too.

Actually 4th gen use 5 - 3.5W 194 bulbs..
I think you'll see about 50% improvement with 5W Xeon blubs.

Does anyone know if the 99 4th gen uses 194s behind the gauges as well? I've heard that the 99s are different and use some sort of LED. Can anyone confirm/refute this?

Thanks

Vin

Wow, these are expensive! But they sure look bright. I'm not so sure it'd be a good idea to use these for instrument lights. They may end up too bright, forcing you to use the dimmer and causing all other lighting to be too dim.
