Before anyone says it, I'm at school, so I don't have time to use the search function. Normally, I will use it. So, please excuse me.

When I get my VB install, I will use synthetic ATF. Should I also change to synthetic for my motor oil? Any performance advantages or difference in using synthetic? I never used synthetic before for either the ATF or motor oil. I am just wondering is there any difference I can feel from using synthetic. Btw, which synthetic motor oil is good? I recently had my oil change, so should I just wait for the next oil change or can I change it now? Thanks.

I'm not sure if synthetic improves car's performance.
But I know that it offers extra protection.
Whether you need that *extra* protection or not - it's your call.

Well, there will certainly not be any discernable difference in vehicle performance. Synthetics provide more protection under extreme conditions. For example, driving in 120 degree desert heat, or starting your car when the temp is freezing. But under normal (even harsh everyday commutes), dino oil is just fine. Oil has come a long way in the last ten years, even the conventional stuff.

A general interval we like to follow here is:

Dino Oil: 5k change intervals, Nissan OEM filter
Synthetic: 7.5k+ change intervals, Nissan OEM filter

You may wish to extend or shorten that interval based on your own driving patterns. I drive 50% city (three mile commute) and 50% highway (usually 100 miles at a time), and change my Mobil One every 5k miles.

Eric, thanks for the input. I live in Louisiana, we don't usually get rough weather here. However, it does get quite hot in the summer times. Even if the synthetic only protects the car and not give any performance gains, I think it might be worth switching to synthetic. I drive my car pretty hard each day, so I just want to be sure it can withstand the punishment. Maybe I'll switch to synthetic once I get my supercharger install. Thanks again.
