Just a quick question, i know this has been answered before but i searched and i cant find it anywhere on the org, what is the best wax that you guys are using?

Something that is a really good all-purpose wax instead of doing the 3 step Meguiars process that takes 8 hours alone. I want one that is extremely DURABLE and has a good shine. Got any suggestions????

-----------------------------------------------------------
Secondly, I want to do performance mods to my car and want to know the mods that are the cheapest for my car?

Random Cat appears to be one, anybody know of other cheap performance mods that are good?

Please help me with both of these questions as soon as possible

thanks,
gmax

Remember good old Nufinish, yellow bottle, liquid. Does a pretty decent job for 7.99 I think even consumer reports gave it a thumbs up. Meguires all purpose cleaner/wax does a good job as well.

Well I use Meguires Gold Class. I use both the Wash stuff and the Gold Class liquid wax. Great stuff. Goes on very easy and very nice even without the need of polish or clay. Takes me maybe ten minutes to put it on, then I drive it into moderate sunlight for about 10 minutes to dry then leave it in my garage for another 20 just to let it finish drying. Comes off much easier than other waxes too. Try it is is real nice stuff.

Go intake. About 5 horses for under 50 bucks aint too bad. Or check out Y pipes. Budget exhaust is like 200 for theres and gives 20 - 25 most people get. That is coming soon for me.

i have had good results with the gold class car wash soap and zymol wax, but i very impressed with the wax i got from griot's garage (www.griotsgarage.com). i have had good experiences with some of the stuff from them -- the "best of show" wax, the microfiber towels, and the clay bar with the speed shine spray are all good. the prices are a little higher, but for the quality i think it is worth it.

griot says that the wax will last about three months, but with all the driving i do, i wax it about every 1.5 months.

Durability

I heard that the most durable waxes (i.e. the longest lasting) are the ones containing carnauba, the hardest known natural wax. And the waxes that contain the most carnauba are the solid waxes, not the liquid or paste ones. Does anyone know if this is correct?

the carnuba content is something that i havent figured out... in the griot's catalog, they say that the maximum amount of carnuba that can be put into a wax (liquid or paste, i guess) is around 35%. but i have seen the zymol that comes in the clear plastic bowl (not the ones in the bottle) - those say that they have around 50-60% carnuba.... and they are $40 - $50, if i remember correctly.

the "best of show" wax from griot's is carnuba based - it makes it harder to remove, but it sure does shine and last longer. btw, my car finish is the sterling mist -- i guess a "medium" color (not black, not white)...

I have a Pebble Beige Max and since it does not have those deep color, it doesn't shine as good. For those superblack cars, yes, almost any wax you use should come out a nice result. But after I tried many different ones, now, I use Mothers cleaner wax. it is a natural carnuba wax, and yes, it is a hard wax that ain't easy to come off. but they do give a deeper color shine and i personally love it (except when the time I was wiping off). It last longer too! just have to try it to see those sweat look on the paint.
I've tried a lot of different wax, but they don't shine as good as the mothers (maybe except Meguires Gold). One thing about the Meguires Gold is that they are semi-carbuba, semi-hard wax. you don't need to spent so much effort on the car but also give a nice result. It's cheaper too.
There is just one thing I like to point out though. I remember once reading an article on SCC mag, the synthetic wax (those cheap ones) have a better protection against UV. But my car is not superred or superblack, I wouldn't worry about as much of the paint fading away (like my friend's Red MX-6 haha....).

Caranuba

Caranuba comes in percentages because it has too. If they were to give you 100% caranuba wax you would not be able to work it properly. It has the thickness and consistency of flooring linoleum. Thats why if your looking at around 35% it should be fine for your needs unless you live in an area where it will be hurt easily because of very harsh climates.

As for Clay bars anyone have any that work particulary well that can be picked up at a local place. All I have seen is meguirs but that I have heard leaev a resiude behind. Any suggestions?

i have used the "clay magic" brand clay bar - i got it from pep boys. it was a blue bar, a 4 oz. piece, and it came with a bottle of light spray wax/lubricant.

the clay bar i really like came from griot's garage. it is a yellow bar, and was twice as big, and had it's own plastic jar (for storage, the other one had a plastic box). they sell a light spray wax called "speed shine" that is used to lubricate the bar when you are rubbing it on the car. the good thing about yellow is that you can see the contaminants as they get embedded in the clay.

the clay bar shouldnt leave anyting behind, unless you are not using enough lubricant, in that case, the bar will start to smear on the paint.. all you have to do to clean it up is use more lubricant and rub the clay to pick up th smears....
