I'm looking at a 98 Maxima GXE and the only problem i've seen with it so far is the engine appearance. I believe it used to be a lease. The engine seems to have a lot of corrosion on it, just wondering if thats normal (I live in the northeast...salt on the road in the winter and the ocean close by)or if it just wasn't upkept for the duration of the lease. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

how many miles it has? rust means that it was not taken care or was replaced from older maxima. who knows?

yup i know some people who before turning their leased cars replaced some parts to bad ones.

so if you buy car from non nissan dealer better walk away. also 74k miles is kinda a lot of miles.

how much dealer asks for this car? 5speed or auto?

It's a 5 speed, and it's from a dealer, certified and all that, there asking 14000. I'm gonna get a carfax from them tomorow but i'm not sure what that will tell me. I've seen pics of others maxima's 97's and so forth and there engine's are in much better condition that this one, but they probably got it new.

jeez $14k????? and car has 74k miles??????????? for GXE?????? As far I know GXE buy out after lease is $11K if it has 36k miles, but with those 74k miles it should be much higher. Therefore dealer already received his 9K bucks from lease holder for 3 year lease plus 20 cents for extra mile from 36k miles till 74k miles. Basically what i am trying to say is that this car is not worth 14K, try to negotiate it to be under $11-12k. Keep in mind sticker price of GXE brand new is $16k

I think you better seek for SE models for this price range.

Thats pretty expensive, you can do better than that... go to carmax.com they have some really good prices on maxes... you might have to travel a little ways to pick it up, but they have sweet prices....new and used nissans

That's too expensive. I got my 97 GXE 8 weeks ago from a old guy, with 33k miles on it, for 13.5k. It included sunroof and convience package. I would say the street price is about 14-15k for my car and your car. don't buy it!

According to the Kelley Blue Book http://www.kbb.com the MSRP for an '01 Maxima GXE 5-speed is $21789 including destination charge.

if its certified, i think it should be ok.

my car has over 80k and it runs fine. as far as the engine, all the old cars are kinda dirty and rusty. however 14k is little overbroad, if u can get it for like 7k? thats a good price i think for a certified nissan.

goodluck

who certifies it? I'll certify it if you want me to.. I dont have the experience to do so.

I guess my point is... if its not certified by a nissan dealer, then the certification is worth my 2 cents right?

Even if it is certified, does that really mean anything? NOPE. It's still not under warranty, excedpt the 30 days or what ever they are required my local law.

So I would look for one real cheap with the lowest miles possible. Not every one treats their car as gently as Lucent does or I do.

I thought that certified engines were by Nissan dealers or wahtever. I thought that was how they had to be done. If so see if they have the paperwork. I would still look cheaperr than that though.

14K is way too much for a GXE with that many miles. I got my 97 SE in May 2000 for $15,900 and it only had 34K miles plus it has the sunroof. It also came with a Nissan Gold certification which meant that it was 100% covered for 180 days or 6000 miles.

Go to Yahoo classified section and you can do a great search, hopefully the link above works. This is the philadelphia area

Since we are comparing purchase prices, I'll join in. I bought my '99 GXE with zero miles on it and paid $16,620.

i just bought a 98 gxe in july with 60k for $11.5. it's auto(unfortunately), runs great, the dude didn't take all that good care of it, but now that i bought it, i'm glad he won't do any more damage to it. it looks A LOT nicer than when i first bought it. it has a sunroof and OEM spoiler, i know those two things can be expensive. i didn't really want to take it cause it had so many miles(20k a year seems a little high), but i couldn't pass up the deal. it was from a private owner, so i didn't really know if i could trust the guy, but he was nice and told me everything about it, even gave me all the receipts he had for all the services he had done to it. one thing that did shock me TREMENDOUSLY though.... one time he went 23000 miles without an oil change. i could've smacked the guy for that. if i were you, i wouldn't go for it. keep checkin the classifieds, check the for sale ads even here on maxima.org, you'll find somethin
