I am having trouble with my new CAI. I have an automatic and whenever I am going fast and then brake hard the RPMS go way down and then it stalls. The ECU is not downshifting properly and so then im goin like 5mph in 4th gear, which really messes it up. What is wrong with it?

Try this

First, disconnect your battery from the car for atleast half a day, I did a full day on mine. This will let the ECU reset itself. If this does not work, check your clamps that are closest to the manifold and throttle cable. Make sure that there are no clamps in the way of the throttle, if there are, it will do some funny stuff to your car, I did :-) and if this does not work, cough cough go to your Nissan Dealer and have them look at it. I did not have any problems with my Place Racing CAI, except I had a clamp in the way of the throttle. Email me back.

Make sure you didn't damage your throttle positioning sensor, that could cause stalling of automatics and random RPM changes. I doubt it's the ECU.

I don't think its the ECU either but start there...there would be other problems if it was the ECU though...i agree with brian...check out the sensor...

Stalling at high speed

Hello:

I once read a post on TT.NET (300ZX forum) and sometimes those cars have some type of turbulence condition which can occur in the intake at certain high speed ranges (something like 100+MPH) ... so when the clutch is disengaged for a shift and the RPMs drop to around idle, the motor can stall out...

Perhaps your Maxima with the CAI might be experiencing the same effect... Where does the CAI intake piping terminate at???

When you say that you brake hard when going fast, just how fast is fast???

Just make sure the CAI tubes are connected

all the way after the MAF. This happened to me when I had a CAI. I had more power up high (unfilted all), but my car stalled if I left my foot of the throttle. Lucky I noticed it right away.

I know you already fixed it, I experienced the same problems and it scarring the crap out of me. I had forgotten to plug a sensor in the hole on the underneath of the pipe.

Yeah not plugging in the sensor would make a difference.
