What is the best intake for someone on a budget

I have only had my car for about 2 months, and I dont have the kind of cash that some of you have put into your cars. Can someone tell me what is the best intake for the buck? How much hp will I gain on my 96 SE auto. Also, I have heard that K & N filter chargers help increase air flow for other cars, but when I went to Auto Zone, they didn't carry one for my car. Does K & N or some other company make a similar product? Where can I buy it, and how much does it cost? Thanks for the help.

JWT Popcharger. Identical to Stillen's intake without the high price.

I went elsewhere

I went to Ebay and checked out there for a filter. Stillen and JWT are both 120+. I got mine for about 50 bucks. The way I figure it is that gives you an extra 50 bucks. Which you could use for like a strut bar off ebay or maybe clearcorners if you want them. Now you get two mods instead of the one. It is your money spend it how you like it but just my suggestion.

This is what I did. I bought a cone filter on e-Bay for $25 shipped to my door. Then I bought an intake adapter from summitracing.com for $20 shipped and then I had to buy 4 nuts from Home Depot for $1 to use with the stock bolts. Total cost was $46 and it sounds awesome!

Place Racing CAI...

I know its expensive ($200), but it seems like you get what you pay for. Over 10hp, sounds great, looks great, efficient! I know its $200 and you said budget, but a CAI is something that's not TOO expensive so maybe you should but the best. Just trying to help.

CAI is my preference. A little more $ but also more power. If your going to do it, why not do it right the first time?

Thanks for all the help! I will probably go for a CAI intake, but i might stick with the pop charger so I wil have extra money for strut bars. I would get them off of ebay, but I talked to the owner of a local race shop called Velocity Resources and he said that they are too flimsy and are not good qualilty. But consiering that I am going to be adding more mods to the engine and exhaust it would make more sense to go with the CAI for added power. Any thoughts on the best CAI intake?

Why do you think stock is best? That makes no sence.

the intake on www.procarparts.com is really cheap, i bought it for 32.00 dollars and it has a reusable K&N filter and it does great for me, the only thing is that the adapter doesn't have the right holes, but its real easy to drill holes, and it works perfectly

$$ INTAKE??

Well sir, if your on a budget like i am, then listen up.
Pep Boys - APC cone intake $25
Lowes - 8" 4-whole drilled brace (support) $ .80 LOL
take your stock box out, take out the bronze/gold adapter ring attached to the stock box. Use a set of side cutters or pliers to bend curved side of gold ring to a almost straight edge. Use this as your adapter, use a hacksaw to modify the 8" brace and bolt this on under the filter. Use the c-clamp included to tighten the intake to the gold ring and attach back to car. It worked for me and two other buddies! That and an exhaust is my only mod and I HANG with CAI's in '97s in my '95!!
That is if your really on a budget!! LOL!
