5th Gen Exhaust on 4th Gen????

Which one of you guys has put a 5th gen. Maxima exhaust on your 4th Gen? Is it a lot of work or does it fit on well? also, does anyone know if there are any HP gains by doing this?

thanks,
maximamark

I have one

I installed the Y-pipe on a week prior to the 5th gen muffler. You can really feel the gain. The following week, I installed the Courtesy B-pipe and 5th gen muffler. Gains were not as much, but they were definitely noticable. I'm not sure how much the b-pipe does on its own more or less the 5th gen muffler, but together...it's great. I think when you open the exhaust to flow more free, you definitely want some backpressure on the low end.

If I can find a cheap place to dyno, I'll post the graph...I'm very curious myself to see the curve.

As far as installation, you have to have it welded on. The hangers fit perfectly and the shape of the muffler is consistent. However, the B-pipe and muffler flange changed from 99-00. The 5th muffler extension pipe that connects to the B-pipe curves up, then down. The 4th gen muffler just curves up. Most 5th gen owners that change their mufflers do not use a direct bolt-on and the installer usually just cuts the pipe off were the 4th gen muffler mets.

The muffler shop I went to had the job done in less than 15 minutes and only $20.

I've got one on my 96. You can feel the difference, I don't know what the gain is. I'd guess it modest, maybe 5hp or so. It does inprove the feel of the car when coming up through the gears, seems smoother.
To install you need to weld a piece of pipe on to the muffler to extend it a bit. After that you just bolt it on.
