guys with body kits -> car washes?

Have you guys ever driven in to a car wash? I'm just curious, cos as the semester goes by, I wont have the time to wash my car like I normally do. What are the chances of the front lip getting detached while rolling through one of those car washes? btw the lip on my car was screwed on and has tape if it helps. thx.

I can't even clear the tire rails that guide the car along. I wouldn't want to run my car through anyway and risk damaging a wheel. I'd much rather do it myself. If you're not dropped you should be able to clear it though.

Well, I haven't seen your car since the kit, but theblue and I are about the same height off the ground (he has the kit and isn't lowered).

I have no problems with car washes in my area. Go to one some day and ask if you can measure.

hey eric... yeah its been a while. lot of changes since the last time

well basically what i was asking was if those huge brush things in the car wash are powerful enough to rip out the front lip? i guess i'll drive down there tomorrow and ask them... we'll see what they say.

I wouldn't think so...especially if you have it screwed on too.

Maybe go to a touchless type wash...where you just get sprayed.

don't go through the car wash, that's torture. don't they have those self service bays where you use the powerwasher?

What's the difference between a touchless car wash and the self service bays?

i go to the self service bays when they are not busy. I bring a bucket, and soap. I just use the water. I wash my car there. going though a touchless car wash won't get any dirt off the car.

Don't put the power washer like 1 inch from the paint. Keep it like 24-36" away from the car. It works great.

CARWASH= madd scratches

my car did fit in the carwash one tiem i tried, without the lip on though. With the lip on it wouldnt even be close to fitting.

I use the do-it yourself places during the winter when its too cold outside to wash my car myself!

I fit in my local car wash, by 1/2 inch, I have stock 16" and intrax springs, with the front lip. That's the only place I wash my car, its a soft touch so it's ok on the paint, not to mention I wax it there about once every two weeks no swirls here

Touchless ones are just what it says - touchless. Meaning that nothing like brushes or those slapping chamois things are used to wash and dry the car. The one I know of near me you park and the hoses spray water all over the exterior then follow it with soap and wax or whatever you want then more water. So it is somethign that washes your car without you having to do anything. The self service ones yo9u actually get out and do the washing.

heheh

Stock wheel gap has it's advantages after all

However, I probably will stop going to car washes period. On my 93 SE I got a few scratches on the doors and stuff from the car wash. They have that rough brush which swipes your sides really hard, when you get out and they dry it, you can feel the surface a little messed up.
I only know of 1 self service center and I usually end up spending around 4-5 bucks there anyways, since it's 3.00$ to wash it with like a 10 minute limit, then I vacuum the interior. Feels way better to do it yourself though

when i had my 95 i always used to get the cheap car washes just to get all the crap off the outside and then i would wax it at home and do the interior(vaccum and spray armor all on the dash) nice and clean

The touch free car wash utilizes high power water jets to wash your car. There is less of a chance that the paint will be scratched. Definitely the choice in the winter rather than the cloth roller washes. The power in the self service bays aren't nearly as powerful.

Something to remember, in Florida, I beleive that the car washes have to recycle some of the water. I'm sure they filter them somewhat, but still it is recycled. And the chemicals they use is pretty harsh. May be the same in other states especially if you have any kind of a drought situation.

No not really. Thats why I dont go to them. Actually I just do my own every week. It was the only way I could say it though to sum up the difference. Hey Nick, they let you use a bucket and what not in the self serve place you go to? I tried it once at 1am with 5 other open bays and they complained that I was doing that because the sign said it was prohibited. Huh.
