Which side of the VQ is the right side and which is the left. How do you tell?

Got me there, but standing from the front of the car, the cylinders follow this order.

1 3 5
2 4 6

Timing chain is on the passenger side of the car, which would be on the "left" side if you were looking at the engine while standing in front of the car. The same side the oil filter is on.

Our cars (USA) are LEFT Side drivers, The UK has RIGHT side driving cars. Now do we know which is left and which is right?

Maybe using L and R won't work . . .

. . . because of what the others mentioned above. Why not do this, stand to the side of the car so you are facing the engine. You are on the side where you can see the timing chain, belts etc. From there you know that the cylinder bank on your right is cylinders 1-3-5, and 2-4-6 is on your left. Then just take all your references from there.

Are you talking about the 'left' andf 'right' oxygen sensors?

The "left side" is the front, or when you open the hood, the side you are facing.

The "right side" is the back, or side against the cowl of the car.

Clarification

Generally speaking, the right/left sides of the car are as if you are in the drivers seat facing forward. So the drivers side = the left side and the passenger side = right side. The timing chain is on the right side of the engine bay and the transmission is on the left. Hope this helps.

Don hit the nail on the head. I searched the guy's posts, and he is complaining of a Oxygen sensor problem. The left and right refer to that.
