Timing chain is on the passenger side of the car, which would be on the "left" side if you were looking at the engine while standing in front of the car. The same side the oil filter is on.
Maybe using L and R won't work . . .
. . . because of what the others mentioned above. Why not do this, stand to the side of the car so you are facing the engine. You are on the side where you can see the timing chain, belts etc. From there you know that the cylinder bank on your right is cylinders 1-3-5, and 2-4-6 is on your left. Then just take all your references from there.

Clarification
Generally speaking, the right/left sides of the car are as if you are in the drivers seat facing forward. So the drivers side = the left side and the passenger side = right side. The timing chain is on the right side of the engine bay and the transmission is on the left. Hope this helps.
