API-GL4 vs. API-GL5

I checked the sticky post on maintaining the Max, but couldn't find a reason not to use API-GL5, onlt not to use it and to use API-GL4. Well, no one here in Denver that I can find sells 4, only 5. Does anyone know why not to use 5?

If I remember correctly from one of DBMs posts, GL4 is petroleum based whereas GL5 is silicone based. GL5 will start to corrode various metals inside your transmission, I think one of the metals he mentioned was brass? Anyways, don't use it. I'm sure you can find GL4 somewhere, I don't see what your geographical location has to do with whether or not they sell it near you. Cars that need GL4 need GL4, period, and can't use GL5. So unless they have special cars in Denver, they sell GL4 somewhere trust me.

Nealoc187 is on the right track, a GL-5 will eat your tranny. If you're going to change the fluid, why not put a synthetic in? It's definitly worth the extra money and shifts great in the cold!
