Flowmaster
got a flowmaster 40 with the resonator deleted and it sounds real good......it has this deep tone but like when it gets to the 3 rpm starts sounding like a 350Z, can I make it sound better? I dont have a Cold air intake....I heard that you lose horsepower with that......is that true? any thoughts?

with a CAI u loose low end, and gain high end
If u like low end stay with stock
basically if u get an intake, might as well get the good one from the beginning, no point in HAI/short ram or whatever other hacked variations are called, its just for sound and you definitely loose low end which u use more than the high end anyways

I guess that makes more sense, you are basically playing with the power curve, you take some power away from one end and throw it to the other end. and as you said stock is the best of both worlds with a more or less balanced power curve.

^^^ Meh, you won't notice anything but a little torque gain from a CAI, but you won't loose anything over stock whatsoever. It just fattens up the lower range alot, and adds a little everywhere else, but not noticably so. IMHO CAI is better in every aspect except filter cleaning than stock, and stock is better in every aspect than HAI or short-ram.
Plus, CAI just sounds cool at WOT!

And I would look on Ebay for a CAI, they are always on there for like $40 shipped, several color options, you just have to replace the filter w/ a better one...

haha did this thread turn into another intake thread? Crazy. Btw, your max doesn't sound like a 350z. I've yet to hear a good clip of a max with a flowmaster. Just doesn't sound right on the car. But you should post a clip. Any intake other than stock effects hp somewhere on the curve. CAI gains low and loses some high. HAI is the opposite. Your choice on which one to go but an aftermarket intake will add sound to the engine bay.
:edit: btw make sure the k&n is an actual cai. Most i've seen are HAI. I would pipe the intake to the fender and get a k&n cone separately.)

I've got a 90 series Flowmaster. Resonated. Here is a clip of normal driving: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oLWwFe9ghZw . The video is nothing extravagant, I need to get a full throttle run on video.
