Strut replacement?

Strut replacement?

I did the front brakes, new rotors and ss lines and then for some reason I kept hearing a thump when I went over bumps. Everyone said it was a strut. I took it to the dealership were they had it all day and they replaced the front right strut. They called and told me what they did but the noise is still there. They are going to keep it overnight and try to look at it more. What could I have done by changing rotors and lines that all of a sudden my struts would go bad? Im extreamly carefull with my car because of rims and nobody else drives my car? They made the comment that it looked like it had been painted, Im like nope had it since 15 miles. Run a carfax if you want.

Well picked up the car today and they replaced the right front strut but there is still a small thud over bumps. They couldnt figure it out. Also had to order a passenger door handle and my sunroof sometimes doesnt want to close they will have to look at next time. On another bad note my rear cross drilled /slotted rotors are cracked already. I dont auto cross, drag race or take it to the track. I did buy them used though so Im on the hunt for some new rotors for the back.

thats pretty bad, and why would you take the car to the dealer for such an insignificant noise ?

i wonder how much these trips to the dealer set you back

Also why would they replace one strut? did they tell you what was wrong with it ?

i would be very very careful when taking the car to the dealer, why do they replace the part and THEN call you to say they just did it ? what if you didnt want them to replace it and just wanted them to diagnose the problem so you could fix it yourself?

I would suggest getting regular rotors for the rear, since they are not used like the front. The slotted/cross drilled are overkill for the back.

it could be the strut tower mount that holds the entire strut in place. The strut tower mount is made out of rubber; so it tends to wear out after a while.

did they repalce your strut mount? and they should have changed both sides not just one i had a broken stut mount that caused some noise check that out there like $

The car is under warranty and the dealership is cool with all my mods. He said if whatever you did isnt related to the problem he will fix it. I couldnt figure out what the noise was or what it could be but new it wasnt right. Its under warranty so why not let a tech take a look at it. They also had to replace a door hinge and need to look at my sunroof. I recently had someone do SS lines on the front and they were not secured very well and he told me he took care of it no problem.

Not sure what they changed except he said they did the strut. I had less then 11,000 miles and didnt think I would have a problem but will ask him next time I see him.
