Brandnew is referring to a retrofit with OEM high quality projectors that are retro'd into stock (or ebay for r34 housings) housings and then used in associationg with a HID kit that uses a D2S or similar bulb. The results are fantastic in quality, and brightness and coverage. There are two known members who do great retrofits, heresmymind is the one who did brandnew's along with the color shifting mod and maxgtr2000 ( i think) is another member. Just search for projector retrofit to see how they came out and what costs are involved (and SEARCH HIDPLANET!)

*edit* I should add that most commonly used projectors I think are Acura TSX or TL projectors or e55 from Benz or BMW 3 series ( i think ) projectors, so you can get a head start on shopping around

Not true. I have a 4600K HId kit in Cefiro housing w/ no retro. Light output is great, aimed slightly down for courtesy to others. I pass many cops/ state troopers and not even a flash of the brights from them. But to me, its like the sun is out, even in rain/ fog. not to mention, ANY reflector within like 1/4 mile GLOWS like mad.

Our stock housings are not made to be used with HIDs. Doesn't matter if you aim them down either, you'll still be blinding people. Retrofits are the way to go.... or just a 9007 upgrade for those poor people like me

Yes just make sure you aim them down a bit so you are courteous to others. Yes a retro is the way to go, but you can always do that later. It never hurts to just start somewhere and add as you go. If you need a solution to bad lighting and YOU want HIDs, then buy them. I love mine and wouldn't give 'em up for anything, even though they aren't retro'd with projectors. I cant afford that, nor have the time to invest in it. I got tired of buying new silverstars every 6 months. My HIDs were like $180 shipped to my door and installed in 20 minutes. At $45 a set, those silverstars got too expensive to replace so often.

Like I said prior, Staties don't mind my lights, so they must be fine, god knows in Ohio if they weren't and the blinded others, I'd get pulled over for it. Until a cop pulls me over for it and tickets me, I feel my lights are fine. I will continue to enjoy them just he way they are.

So are yours just direct replacement bulbs or something? What did you have to do to install them?

This is a properly done retro (that's a test fit install, don't mind the gap, I'll have better pics later):

I think if you aim them down for courtesy it works. The retro is lovely but too expensive for most because we aren't as technical with retro fitting or DIY jobs. But if you get the HID nows and then add the retro as you you will be okay. Another thing is that make sure you get the bi-xenon HID with high and lows. If you get just lows you will be sorry. Believe me.

I agree with maxima92se.

When on a budget, I feel this is a good start to an upgrade in your lighting. Again...a retro is the ultimate way to go, but not if you cannot afford it yet, esp if you can't do it yourself.

I bought a "Tenon" (that is the brand name) kit from fleabay. It was like $175 (+/-) shipped. Don't remember exactly the cost, but that is close. But that was the total, and for Bi-xenon. It is a plug and play kit. Ballasts, ignitors, bulbs everything. Just give them your bulb style # and the temperature, you get the kit. (make sure you really research the seller and their feedback, this way you get the best possible.) The guy I bought from, had 'US SELLER' in white in the thumbnail pic-he had highest feedback with least negatives, many on HIDs. Also his name, which was Asian decent I believe, was his handle, not some cheezy HID trick name.

It is a true HID kit, Bixenon (high/low beams) just obviously not projectors, so you don't get the nice sharp cutoff that everyone talks about. It just lights up everything. That is why you HAVE to aim them down a bit, so the "focus" of the lens isn't in everyones eyes coming towards you. I got 4600k since I wanted the best visibility possible, without a blue color. Granted there is a "touch" of blue color, but not much, not like a 6000k or 8000k.

And you mean light bulbs, not headlights.

... i find it hard to believe that the cefiro housing, gave "GREAT" output...

but yea.. why not waste money on bulbs and just save that 20-40$ on the hid kits. just look around on ebay they have them up all the time.

You know I bought a cheap HID Kit off ebay for like $40. Definitly what I was looking for. Took about 10-20 min to install. No high beams but they are definitly bright enough.

cefiro housing had terrible output. beam pattern is terrible and the HIDs made it worse although it looked good cosmetically. light was just sprayed everywhere. stock housing with HIDs has a better pattern...
