Blowin' in the Wind

"The answer my friends is..."

Well, the question is, "Will inflating or deflating my tires reduce the impact of 20-25mph crosswinds?"

We've got a Nor-Easter and Noel blowing up and down the Florida coastline. Just drove back from O-town to J-Ville, and I think I put on about an extra 20miles going side-to-side. All you Florida boys know what I mean.

Actually, it really was not that bad on my car, but made the drive more user-intensive in terms of keeping in my lane and also keeping away any 18-wheelers drifting into it..

Since i've got another thread running regarding how to reduce body lean, I suppose that in addition to reducing lean, a better suspension/wheel/tire setup would also increase stability in side drafts like these.

Opinions? Thoughts?

Not much on the board about that issue

Just put your windows down.

Ok, enough with the wisecracks.... I'd say anything to reduce the contact patch (ie over/under inflating) is not recommended for many safety/handling related reasons. I can't really see anything having MUCH of an effect on the crosswinds pushing the car, but better handling sure would help to recover and make it more responsive.

mesh windows......

really tho>lowering, tightening the suspension up, stuff like that. Neither worth doing simply for crosswinds, there's no simple fix.
fact of life:
some times it will blow, and not always the way you want

yea im closer to ft lauderdale and the past week on i95 has been a b*tch.

i was actually looking to stiffen my steering column but i hve no idea how.
mine seems looser than it should be, a small gust moves my car slightly.

the reason its bothering me is because i just spent 2 weeks driving around in an 07 altima rental car. that steering column is very stiff, making it much easier to stay in a straight line when going 85+. i feel like i have to correct my maxima every 10 seconds.

and its not power steering fluid, i just did a full flush (turkey baster method) with about 4 quarts of synthetic. and my alignment is perfect.

I saw a guy on NYC Maximas with a mod that might be similar to what you're looking for.

no. the spoiler is for looks on our cars.

just need to figure out a way to make the wheel more resistant - so it takes more force to turn.
theres gotta be a quick fix for this.

Actually, setting the pressure lower helps keep the car from drifting sideways. I tried 39PSI, 35PSI, and 30PSI, and it got better as I went lower.
