I have never seen a 98 with a pop out pocket from the factory. Chances are it was installed by a previous owner.

Thats a 97 SE cluster 100%. Its the only year a cluster looked exactly like that. Thats not an SE-L cluster, I have an SE-L cluster so I know.

All 95-97 needles point left, only the 98-99 gas gauge point right.
All SE's are white faced, SE-L's are titainum.
All 97-99 SE needles are orange on bottom and clear on top, not red through out like SE-L.
All 95-97 are analog odometers, all 98-99 are digital.

The only fuzzy pillars I have seen are off an I30, so I bet your pop out tray is too.

MY car:

98-99 SE cluster:

SE-L cluster:

Do you see the differences!?

My man, you really need to do your homework on trim levels. 1st, there is no such thing as a GSL. Secondly, the SE-L package was ONLY offered in 1999. It consisted of door badges, darker colored trunk badges, SE Limited floor mats, and SE Limited perforated leather (if it wasnt a cloth car), Slightly darker SE wheels, and a slightly darker instrument cluster with a digital odometer. The "SE Limited" package was not just unique to maximas, and it was across the entire Nissan line. In 1999 ONLY. Someone purchased door badges and stuck them on your car. It's really a simple thing to do. And in the process, misinformed you.

someone took your radio panel from either a 99 GLE or an I30. No SE came with woodgain trim from the factory. That is part of the GLE and I30 luxury.

The other options you speak of, such as auto climate control, painted grill, are standard SE stuff. Your guage cluster is very specific to a 97. As it was the ONLY year offered in white face, red needles, and a regular odometer. I can say this with 100% certainty, as I have owned one EVERY year 4th gen maxima, and have seen with my own eyes, the differences in each.

Wow I feel special. This thread was made using a pic off my cardomain. haha.

I have a 99 (not 99.5) SE, with 49k currently on the clock. My interior is completely stock other than the radio and paradox-systems gauge rings in my cluster.

I know it's completely stock because I'm the 2nd owner and the person(s) before me were an older couple. I doubt they changed anything.

EDIT:

And for all of you people who have issues coming to a conclusion about what your car model is...go read the sticky's. Stop arguing about it. It's stupid. And it makes you look stupid.

I bought my car 6 months ago, and doubt that the 50 year old previous owner did and interior modifications. I have notice that there is not the most maxima savvy and honnest people on this site so im not in the routeen of trusting everything everyone said. All I asked for was some proof that the car I bought was not what it's badges stated... I was stating what my car had option weise. It has both what the SE and GLE offer. The badges were from an SE-L so I thought it was!! The research I did was to find what options were offered and for which body style not year. Excuse me for the mistake. JSutter was the first person who gave some examples insted of forcing his opinion out there. Thank you, I do see how the options are added on and werent stock. I never searched "97 SE-L" so i didnt know they only came in 99. You people spazz out so bad, to bad it wasnt for something positve maby you could have accomplished something other than shifting my opinion!!!

i also miss spoke "typed" when I wrote GSL I ment to say GLE

Reading this thread you did not ask for proof you were stating you know your car is a 97 se-l. No one was forcing there opinion the members were stating FACTS. But you wouldnt listen to them. instead you go off saying things like "Tell that to my 97 se-l , yours is not but mine is " crap.

I have a 99 SE-L and it has the fuzzy pillars. Also, when you say titanium gauges, they aren't actually titanium right, just the color?

The flat woodgrain cover basically pops right off the drawer. I took the flipdown "lipped" black cover that was originally on my GXE, remove it, cut off all the parts extruding from the back of it so as to make it flat, and then 3M-taped it to the drawer. You couldn't really make the woodgrain flip-down since the original flip-down lipped piece has a hinge built into it that makes it flip down. Sorry if that sounded confusing lol

I'm going to assume this is refering to the picture in the first post, which in fact is my center console. If so, thank you . I've been getting a lot of compliments about my car lately. It feels great. Headlights, corner lights, now my center console. Excellent .
