I read this for repairing the display:

But before I dig into it, my display seems to like the fall and winter but not late spring and summer! When the temperature dropped below 70 max last week, the display started to work again. Warming the interior up to 75 did not make it quit, and cooling it to sub 70 last summer did not make it work!

Do you think this is the fix???

 

I pulled my bose head unit a couple of months ago (not very difficult) because the volume control was erratic. If I pushed on the volume **** it would start to work correctly. I removed the faceplate, it's similar to the keyboad of your PC , from the rest of the headunit and resoldered all the connections on the back of the faceplate. It has worked like a charm ever since. I believe the faceplate, just like your PC keyboard is more likely to fail that the rest of the PC. This is because that is where all the moving parts are. Not sure your display issue will be solved same way but may be worth a try along with the resistor check that you refer to. Although resistors don't often fail. This is probably a couple hours work.

With a 190K, I am just trying to get it working again! Just bought new tires for the D-max, there went my fun money!

 

I had the volume **** problem too and wound up replacing the faceplate. I totally agree with this soldering fix. The cold to hot back to cold temperature cycling may cause the solder joints to fail.

 

I actually just did the repair this after noon and it took me about an hour to do the whole project (it was my first time taken it apart). I tried fixing the cd err problem also but that didnt work.. it's a very easy repair as long as your have some decent skill with a soldering iron

 

I ha the LCD problem, though it wasn't temperature based - it seemed completely random and most of the time it didn't work.

I did the resistor resoldering and it works just fine now.

 

Sounds like you guys just re-soldered it, did not remove it?
If you have to replace the surface resistor, where do you get a replacement?
I tried re-soldering it. Will see if it worked tomorrow.

 

Interesting. I joined this forum because my mom's 96 bose display works only occasionally, usually on really cold days. I'll have to try the soldering tip.
