I want this keyless entry pad so bad - but apparently it's only for "newer" Nissans?

I have this feature on my SHO and love it. I would love to be able to install this on our 4th gen. Maximas. I asked Pinnacle and they said it was only for the "new" Nissans. What do you guys think? Any chance of getting this to work with a 4th gen?

Link to the key pad.

And for those of you who are going to say "Why would you need this if you already have a keyless entry remote?", there are many good reasons. The beauty of it is you can actually lock your keys in the car, on purpose (and conversly, never lock your keys in by accident). Like when you are going to the beach, mountain biking, etc. Also, there are lots of times when I'm in the garage or driveway, want something from my locked car but my keys are in the house. Once I was locked out of my house, the Maximas with homelink were in the garage but my SHO was on the driveway. I unlocked the SHO via keypad and opened the garage with the garage door opener. Situations like that.

you are talking about the numerical pads under the door handle?

i think i seen those on a 96 explorer. no reason they should be "too new" for your car. dont know if they would be able to retroed to fit, but they definitely were around when our cars were made. hell i think ive even seen this on a 3rd gen.

Not necessary under the door handle. I was thinking of putting it on our B pillar. Not quite sure how it mounts yet though (wired? wireless/stick-on?).

i think it should be able to work... i considered doing this when my door handles were shaved. i've seen better looking ones than that. just wire it up to a constant 12v and splice the output into the unlock wire.

I would get the handles off of a 3rd gen and have the buttons molded into 4th gen handles so it looks more stock and flush than these bulky american ones

Sure, it's a tad ugly. But, aside from the actual benefits, the status of being the only 4th gen. with it is worth it.

What do you mean about Sarah's dog? Lila doesn't have a doggy door, if that's what you mean.

i'm pretty sure they all operate the same way (assumption) so shop around a little and see if you can find a prettier one.

isn't there a way you can put it somewhere it cant be seen...

like underneath the mirror or something...

that just ruins the look of the car...

it gives your door handles "eyebrows"

I never said I would put it above the door handle. I already mentioned that I was thinking about the B-pillar (black on black). Or, yes, somewhere hidden/less conspicuous.

Now we're going in circles, I already told you she doesn't have a doggy door.

Besides Michael, you know Lila has no skills other than keeping her tail curled up on her back so the whole world can see her bunghole and sniffing your crotch when you are working on the car.

I loved my keypad on my 91. I wish I had one now. If it's put in nicely under the handle, not like the SHO it would still look good. I think show people are more objective to it. I like to have my car look clean and all but its still a DD and I want the most options to make daily life easier. I would love to see you work this out man. I would assume with the parts from nissan it should be able to be modded into the 4th gen. What parts are actually needed? Is there a special system in the 3rd gens or such? Or is it a seperate part of the lock/unlock stuff?

Cdg, I agree, if it were under the handle or somewhere inconspicuous, I think it would be a slick addition, without being a huge eyesore. Your questions about what installation parts are entailed are the same questions I have. I thought at first this was actually wireless and battery operated. But it might very well be hard wired. You know what? For $55 (plus shipping of course), I think I am going to just take a chance and order it. We'll see what happens. I'll keep you guys updated.

Homer, are you saying that the 3rd gen. keypad also rolled down the windows?! That's way cool. My SHO doesn't do that. Just lock one door, all doors, or trunk, and lock all doors.

I found a website that apparently sells univerial kits. But at $180, that's a bit steep.

A1 Electric

The KE1601

Install instructions

And check this out! Unless they are joking, here is a link to fingerprint scanners, retina scanners, brain scanners, voice scanners....... and a "think starter"??? lol

Hmm... I guess I was right - it is stick-on/wireless. But, again, it is not meant for our 4th gen. Maximas.

^^^ do it and post pics.. the would be hawtness..

I would try to cut out little squares on the bottom part of the door handle, so to only stick the touch pad buttons out.. nice and clean instead of having that whole piece there...
