Original water pump and seals? The water pump appears to leak from the crank pulley area, due to the weep hole design behind the timing cover.

+1 to pmohr. Sounds like the water pump seals or pump itself are allowing the leak. It'd be best to just replace the whole assembly.

I have a leak there. Some days it leaks some it doesnt. The strange thing is it has been going on forever. How long does it take to pull the timing cover?

I got mine for ~$50 from either AZ or NAPA.

No need to pull the timing cover for just the water pump, though it does make it so amazingly easy once the cover is off.

First timer, I'd say a few hours, most of which is time spent finding all the hiding 10mm (head) bolts, forgetting about the two long 12mm (head) bolts hiding behind the lower oil pan, and getting that damned PS pump out of the way.

Getting it back on...is a different story. Have fun with the RTV, is all I can really say.

Doesn't really make sense to remove the timing cover for a water pump job. Without removing the entire cover me and a bud took about an 1 1/2 hours to replace the water pump from jacking the car up to starting it. That includes some wasted time as well.

cold weather probly caused the o-rings around the water pump to contract.

to replace them i wouldnt take off the timing chain cover, i didnt when i had to do mine. but ya it will take a good afternoon to do.

yeah, sounds like a cash job for a mechanic then. Is the pump prone to premature seal wear or is it more about changing the coolant more regularly?

No, just the water pump, two M8x1.25x40mm bolts, some rtv, and coolant.
