I called jwt and they told me that a 96 ecu will work fine in my 97 without throwing a cel but I did not ask about cali and fed spec

guess your wondering if you should get that ecu also

JWT confimed this to. they said if it was a CALI spec then it would trip an ECU.

So I could use any 96 FED spec ECU in my 97 SE 5spd? Im having problems with production dates and searching for it on car-part.com - does any one know this info?

i found this ECU for a 96 - A18-C84-EX8

What JWT said about it:
A18-C84 EX8 / 96 Maxima 5spd / U / OBD2 / A32-VQ30DE / 23710-54U03

they told me that it would work but couldnt garuantee that it wouldnt make a CEL light go on. apparently the "U" means it will work in both a FED and a Cali car....i just want to know if I dont mod it with JWT and just plug it into my 97 5spd SE it wont set off a CEL.

I believe it will throw a rear O2 code due to the difference in 3/4 wire O2's. Wont be receiving the proper reference. Just follow what the link has and you should be fine.
