The relay box will have all the listing of what it is,that's if the words are not fading. From whatever spot It came out of it should have a listing for it.

Whatever circuit that relay controls may have a problem. That could be why it burned out. Could be cooling fans, horn or cruise control. That is why you don't notice a problem........ yet. It is also possible the the relay just failed and a replacement may fix your problem.

The grey one, only grey relay in there, is for the inhibit/clutch interlock. If that is the case the car should not start with out it. Do your horn or cooling fans work?

i havn't tried yet, the car started just fine the other day but it has been parked for about a week b/c my o/d would not turn on, so for a week i have been cleaning the egr tb iacv ect and replacing plugs and oil change and tranny and radiator flush then i was swapping out battery's with an optima and i smelled some thing funny and noticed the relay was all melted, the weird part is the day i smelled it the car had not been started all day and i didn't even have a battery in it. i think it is the inhibitor relay however i thought that just controlled the cruise???????

Weird, I only saw one grey relay in the relay box by the battery and that was for the inhibit relay. What you are holding is not it. What you are holding only has three prongs it looks like maybe a horn relay, or some kind of relay for a light. Other then the horn relay (mine is black?) it does not look like any of the relays in that box. Do your horn or headlights work properly?

I think ASCD is for cruise and inhibit is for clutch or P or N with Auto trans.

Try some functions such as turn signals, power seats, windows, sunroof?

I'll take a closer look this afternoon.

I think it's the horn relay, for some reason mine is black not gray. Bet your horn does not work. The coil probably failed, you can probably just install a new one without worry. You may be able to pull one from the other relay box under the hood if you need to do some testing.

i think it may be the turn signal relay, i called oreillys and they described the turn signal relay like my bad one, they are delivering it to me at my shop around 10:30 so that may be all it is!!

Weird, I looked in that relay box by the battery and did not see a grey relay like that. Mind you it's cold in my garage so I'm doing this quickly. If you tell me the color of wires running to the relay maybe I can find it in wiring diagrams.

This is the horn relay wiring. Green w/Blk stripe goes from coil of horn relay to horn Fuse #64 (10Amp). Green w/Wht strip goes other side of horn relay coil to horn switch and theft system. Solid Green wire provides 12VDC from the battery to both horns when horn switch or theft system activates the horn relay. Somebody been playing with the wiring? These wires are not used for any other circuits.

This information is from 1998 FSM but I would expect all 4th Gen to be the same.

the wierd thing is my horn still works i dunno, everything seems to work accordingly so ill just get a horn relay and see if it fits lol, but it does sound right about the horn b/c for along time after i got my momo steering wheel, i thought the horn wire was a ground for the cruise and it was grounded out for about 6 months lol, i had to unplug my horns tho b/c they kept going off lol, all that is fixed now tho
