btw, are you replacing the whole head unit? At what cost? There may be places that can repair the unit.

Nope, but i'm having trouble with my head unit because it always scratch my cds. Does anybody know how much it would cost to replace a Bose head unit for a 98 Maxima. I have like 50 cds and about 90% having some tracks that skip.

I thought about that but, it would cost too much! If i put a new head unit i have to change the spekers and get an amp. I want to keep the Bose speakers but want to change the HU. Hey is there a way i could get an after market HU and keep my Bose speakers? Thanks

I've had trouble with mine. Everytime I turn it down, it goes up....way up! My sister has a QX4 with the same deck and it feels much different. she has no problem.

1)Does the sound quality improve, i mean with an aftermarket deck hook up to the Bose speakers, does it sound bad.
2) Does it add loudness, i just got 2JL subs splice into the back speakers and with the Bose HU lacks the loudness; i want loudness in order for the subs to go boom!
3) what type of converter, i heard you have to tune into a certain FM or AM frequency for this to work.
4) Whats your set up?
5) Can i hook up the amp to the HU to run the BOse speakers?
6) how much did it cost you...HU and converter?
THANKS!!!

1. The highs in quality improves, but not as much bass
2. It does add loudness, and sounds great with subs
3. I am not sure what the converter is called. Maybe a high level converter???? When you are using your cd player/radio, it works like it would in any other car/truck
4. I have a JVC SH99 MP3 cd player (awesome HU), stock bose speakers, 2 RF HE 12's, RF 360.2, RF 1 farad cap, and just recently added some Alpine tweeters (last week)
5. You can hook the preamps (RCA's) straight into an aftermarket HU. It sounds twice as good as a converter.
6. I got my HU for $320 shipped, and the converter was either $40 or $60, can't really remember.
Hope this helps. You could always get a regular cd player, and not MP3, and it would probably be much cheaper for the HU.

I've had exactly the same problem. Luckily the dealer repalced the whole unit for free as it was under warranty. But I'm afraid what would happen if my warranty runs out. According to the dealer, "you cannot repair it, you've to replace the whole unit"
What did you do with yours??

RE #5 so i can hook up the sub amp to the HU instead of being splice into the speakers. This will improve the sound quality of the subs right?
Thanks!!!

I'm still dealing with it. I asked the dealer about it and they told me to pound sand. I'm over the 36k warranty so I'd have to pay for a new one. I'm debating an aftermarket set up or buying a used one on ebay.
