making black clears using all clears

i want to make black/clear tails for my 96. im getting all clear outers and i want to know
1. should paint the inside red, then put the niteshade over that (inside the lens)
2. should i just skip the red and just use the niteshade.

should i niteshade inside the lense or outside?
someone told me outside but inside sounds better to me...

anybody with knowledge of this or any tips for me that would be great. i cant really afford to mess this up so i want to make sure i get it done right and to my complete satisfaction the first time. thank you.

You can but y? itll just be darker lights but still be clear. If you were doing the dtm then that would be fine but since you are rockin all clears just do the outside.

Its best if you paint the inside red so you get the red brake light look and then put them together and do some night shades on the outside of the bottom of it and use some clear coat. That way they will show red when braking and parking lights are on but will be tinted to give that black/clear look.

This is what you need to do. I was going to do this, but never did it. This is exactly how I had it planned, minus the clear coat on the outside, just in case I wanted to take the niteshades off in the future.

so what i think ive gotten is
step 1. paint bottom of inside of lense with red.
step 2. put back together.
step 3. tape off what i want to stay clear.
step 4. use niteshade to tint outside
(now they're black/clears)
step 5. untape and clear coat entire lense.

how does that sound?
recommended clear coat?
i appreciate the help guys

Probably not, other than Flava 24/7, but his is on 97+ years.
My only concern for you is the legality of it. You won't have any red visible (unless you always have your lights on) and the police may not like that. I'd suggest a light coat of NiteShades, just enough to make it darker.

Just a thought. Good luck.

go to lamin-x.com and get film. i did that with mines and blacked out the all the taillights and looks very nice. it's always black but ones you step on the brakes you can see the red just fine. i havent had problems with police, one even complimented them heres a pic at night dont have any day time.

if i can ever get some money thrown at me i am going to find some all clears, paint the inside black(so that they will look like the black corner lights and the lens will still be clear) and then led them, i think they will turn out pretty nice, if not someone will like them and buy them lol

I think the legality depends on your local police. The police around here are fine with it as long as you can see the red when hitting the brakes. Same with Neons, some places dont allow them but here as long as the neon tube itself is not visible it is ok to have them.

You have all in information you need. The next step is buying materials and doing it.
