The GXE maximas don't have the electronically controlled front mount. so if you can find a manual GXE, you can get them from that. FWIW, i got all 4 on ebay for $99 shipped brand new, oem. seller I got them from was "abcmarts". my car is a GLE and does have the electronic front mount, but to save some $$$, i chose to replace all 4 with standard mounts. first impression was that there was more vibration mainly at idle. it seems to be getting better over time though, I guess the mounts are softening up.

95-99 only? or can I go up to 03+?

as I see it, pretty much any maxima?

except for the tranny side mount, which has to be from a manual maxima

I know 95-97 for sure, cause I have a 97 auto and used the front, rear and passanger mounts from a 95 5-speed. I do not see why 98 and 99 would be any different

A new mount from NAPPA is about 25 bucks, why would you even consider putting a used one in?

My 97 SE is not electrical.
I just did the ES mounts and they rattle the whole car.

guys, while we are on the topic of motor mounts, I took my car in for a transmission refill and also a check and my mechanic told me that the "rear" motor mount is bad...seems like when he shifts the car through the gears the engine moves.

So my question to you folks who have had your motor mounts replaced...was it because of wear and tear, and are there any differences to the different mounts between the different editions -GXE, SE and GLE. I have a GLE and recall that these are "liquid" filled mounts... but I am also curious as to how much it would cost (labor) to have these changed?

uh......my car's engine has ALWAYS moved when you put it into gear, isn't this part of the role of motor mounts? Let alone my car, every car.....I've seen does this. Check again with the reasoning of your mechanic I guess? Either that or I'm in need of motor mounts myself =P

172k FTW!

even with new mounts the engine will move alittle, they are made to have alittle give. how much was the engine moving around that is a better way to judge

it was a good amount, but he is a good guy that i have gone to for many years for the maxima...and he told me it was not in a particular hurry...
so im wondering-- did the rubber tear?

when he shifted the gears, the engine moved some--can't judge how much...but it popped up a bit and came down. hope that helps. but so far...when my car idles (normally-- occasionaly i have the high idle issue)-- it is very quiet and normal.

mounts usually just get tired, they dont really rip. the inner bushing can separate from the rubber / seize to the through bolt, but not on 1 piece mount.

Is that all the ele. is for, to tell when the mount has gone 'bad', I have not heared of this before.

The electronic mount is made up of liquid chambers. the goal of it is to dampen vibration at idle. when the engine is idling, the mount receives a signal from the ecu (i guess it depends on your RPM) to relax or soften up. Once the RPM's climb, the mount is energized and stiffens up to better deal with the load of the engine. General consensus is that it doesn't do anything but, on my car at least, i did notice a difference on the first startup with my new mounts. there was more vibration being transferred to the cabin than there was with my 4 old mounts. i was pissed but it seems to be getting better over time.
