OK to start car in park with no tranny fluid????

OK to start car in park with no tranny fluid????

i just got done putting the engine back in my car is it ok to start the car in park and leave it in park just to see how the engine runs???? 5 mins tops at idle will this damage anything.....???????

thank you for the advise.. i don't practice this... and im not this stupid i have no problem waiting until the parts store opens in the morning... but local wal-mart doesn't sell tranny filter and i want to change this as well so i didn't want to go and buy tranny fluid tonight at wal-mart and then drain it all tomarrow... please just simple answers im not looking to make this a flaming topic and i don't want to waste anyones time just a simple question.... THanks to all you have all been a great help thus far.

i dont know much about trannies but if i was you i would DEFINATELY just wait

and there is no filter.

Can you start the engine without tranny fluid?

ok thank you you say that there is no filter so getting trans fluid is all i need to do

is this correct????

also i forgot to say this is also a AUTO tranny

No tranny fluid don't even start the car. The tranny will get hot with no fluid.

There's a screen, but no need to replace it. Spray it out with brake parts cleaner, is about it.

Even the the trans is not moving the torque converter is. You should NOT start the car, it will cause serious issues quickly.
