noise when turning at slow speeds

I have a 98 Maxima. It has 120K miles. The car is making noise from front when turning at slow speeds (ie in the parking lot when less than 5-10 miles per hour or even in park). The sound only appears to come when it gets to a certain degree angle than it goes away.

The car drives fine on the highway or main road. When turning at turn signals it does not make any noise.

I just had all 4 struts replaced recently (not from the most reptuable shop though). The noise started coming right after the strut replacement.

Any idea what it could be?
CV Boots?
Tie Rod ends?
Ball Joint?

Is it a ticking noise? Be a little more specific about the noise as it could be crap in your CV joints requiring your axles needing replacement. Are your CV boots torn?

I have the same problem, but my boots are fine, and I'm pretty sure it isn't the axles.

Strut bearings binding up causing spring pop.

The noise is loud "Thud,Thud,Thud" noise. The noise comes when the streeing wheel gets turned 3/4 turn or a full turn - in either directions. The CV boot do not look torn. It is kind of strange that the noise is coming after the struts replacement. I drove the car again yesterday and it rides fine. No noise when driving or turning at turn signals (ie 45 degree turn). So it appears noise is only when I have to make large turns or U-turn types that require the steering wheel to be turned 3/4 or full turn.

I would like get some initial idea before going to a mechanic... Don't want to get ripped off...

Thanks.

Sounds like strut mounts to me. Same thing on my car from drivers front side. Havent done it yet though, waiting for my drop. From what i hear its fairly easy but someone else here can clue you in.

Check your front rotors to see whether they are hot after driving.

I had the same problem on my passenger side. If you only hear it when say you're backing out of a parking spot or you're car isn't in motion and you're turning the wheel and you hear the "thud thud thud" then it's most likely the front strut bearing.

Could be your strut mount but you would hear a knocking around when you're driving and you go over a bump or stop...as if the strut is loose.

I just changed my strut bearings out and the noise went away. The bearing gets dried out. I wouldn't try to regrease it either. Probably easier to buy new ones and they will last longer too
