If the lip is not long enough

just get a pipe to fit over it and superglue it together. That way you have a nice long lip to attach the filter to.

Clear Silicone

I like the pipe idea to extend the mounting surface for the filter, but personally, I'd go with clear silicone adhesive instead of superglue, for two reasons:

1) It's easier to work with b/c it doesn't dry as quickly
2) It's more likely to seal the bonded surfaces airtight, which will prevent unfiltered air leaks into the engine.

but is it that heat resistant? can I just glue the filter to the braket at $15.99 for the filter and $0.87 for the bracket you could just buy a newone instead of cleaning it. although its just as easy to clean with the filter attacked.

Clear silicone is plenty heat-resistent for that application. No prob. whatsoever.

I guess if you wanted, you could buy a new filter every time instead of cleaning it, although I don't know why you'd do that if you could just clean it. Btw, what kind of cone filter are you getting for $15? That's pretty cheap.

Btw, I wouldn't try to clean the filter with it still attached to the car - you risk getting contaminants in the MAF or intake manifold.

Don't know about *all* filters, but the K&N, HKS, and other foam-type filters are reusable. The methods for cleaning and pre-oiling if called for may differ. Other paper filters may have their own oils or filtration enhancers.

Don't know about the superglue thing. If you have enough of a pipe from your adapter, you could just hose clamp the thing on. Makes it really easy to take the filter out to clean, especially for the K&N filters where you either soak them or flush them out from the inside. Hard to do with the filter still on the motor...

Hope this helps,

FYI, HKS isnt quite reusable. You have to replace the green foam part when it gets dirty...

Yep, you're right. Forgot about that. I thought the original ones were washable, and the newer ones were disposable for some reason.

Been awhile since I've seen those in a store.

Aloha,
