Racing while the hood is released...

After releasing the hood, will the hood lock keep it from flying up while driving at high speeds? I heard since the Pop-Chargers are located in the engine bay facing the side of the hood, I heard that havving the hood popped it can get a lot more cold air in the intake, expecially around this time of year. Is this true? I think it's pretty damn dangerous driving with the hood popped, but I also heard that when driving on road trips in the summer it's completely safe to do this so the engine wouldn't overheat. What do you guys think?

Don't do it, I have seen hoods pop up before, and it really isn't pretty.

I'm not proud to admit it, but I ran a 1/4 once with the hood popped by mistake. I had popped it after one race, and I forgot to slam it tight before I staged for the next. I was surprised the starter did not notice it, nor warn me. I don't advise the practice, nor will I ever do that again, even though there was no harm done. That time...

The increase in drag will cancel out any gains from the increased airflow......

and the "drag way" of getting air in there is just to remove the headlight in front of the intake, but definitely not the hood, too much risk

I wouldn't try it, but...

You could put some hood pins in, and the raise them a little so you can pop the hood when you race. They wouldn't looks very good, but hey - its function over style right?

One time I left it open and I was cruising around 80 and I was fortunate the hook did not give, but I witnessed a mercedes hood pop while only going 50 and it busted in the whole windsheild. Hyperextended the arms and everything. There has to be a better way to get more air in their.
