Heater core replacement

My sister just called me. She has a 1995 Maxima Automatic GXE. The plastic hoses that connect to the heater core are cracked. The mechanic says the whole core needs to be replaced and wants $700 to do the job.

How tough is that. Something about removing the dash sounds brutal.

very time consuming, but as long as you keep track of what you remove, it's not that bad. also to save time, be sure to have the t-50 torx bits on hand before you start. I faced the exact same problem about a month ago. would have done it if i had a heated garage to work in, but, no good. I bought the new OEM part from www.worldpartsexpress.com for about $150 shipped. then i took it to my mechanic who installed it for $350.
