Problem with H3's in stock fogs.......

I picked up a set of H3 3000 xenon super vision hid's. I tried to put them in y fogs and cant. The actual length of the bulb is still too big, and is hitting the back side of the reflector... The options that I have figured ut are
1: Do the lexas capsuel mod...
2: Drill a hole through the reflector allowing the bulb to sit through it
(without tuching of course)
3: use some type of washer or something to build up the back side of
the housing allowing the bulb to sit in the same position as the
stock bulb did just customizing the locking mechanizm....

Any suggestions???

The brand

Wont sit flush

The black base of the bulb is supposed to come all the way up to the base

Should I drill through or build out???

if you drill a hole thru the reflector, it sorta defeats the purpose of a reflector..
can you return these bulbs instead? you should get is Mini H3 for HID's...

The washer idea is not bad though...

Minni H3's didnt know about these. The ones I have a smaller than regular but obviousely not minni. I would only keep these if they will fit inside the lexas capsules. Ill just pick up a set and squeeze the reflector over like in this thread.

Do you think/know if the regular sized H3 fits in the yellow capsuel???

This is just a guess, but I'd say no. Since I believe the capsule is also designed for a standard halogen H3 or H3c (HID bulb) size. how much of "build out" is needed? Are we talking like 1/16" or 1/8"? Its hard to tell from the pic.

I am going to install 3000k HIDs also in my fogs and am worried about this issue as well. I assumed that a nice stainless steel washer from your local friendly hardware store will do the trick. (Providing I end up with the wrong size which I am already planning on, since most of these retailers have a listening issue. )

Phew...that's a lot of space to fill in this circumstance. Only because this is for a light housing, you risk the back ring not fitting and light bleeding out from where the washers are too I assume. I have to wait and see when I get my kit what I can do. Without having it in front of me its hard to figure out, you know? (Waiting for tax refund to fund it.)

Being that they are HID's in my opionin any light loss wouldnt be a prob b/c its like 4000X brighter than stock. The metal housing sits about 1 - 1 1/2" away from the back of the gray plastic housing. If the bulb sat back farther than stock it would not hit the back so its clear in that mannor as well. The water proof thingy that encases the rear of the housing is concaved as well allowing a lot of space for the bulb to be recessed. Im waiting foor the Lexas capsules to come in and ill update this weekend when its all hapening...

I had the same prob with my bulbs being too long, i just took a hammer and screwdriver and bent the reflector sheild abit till the bulb fit and i could lock em down with the clips. 10 months installed now and no issues potholes an all still going strong. At the time the retailer didnt sell the minis til after i already installed them.

Makes sense. Make sure to toss up some pics with whatever route you take.....and a finished product. I'd like to see 3000k in a 4th gen fog. (Obviously I am too impatient to wait and see my own.)

Ya wish I would have but I was told they would fit right in.
Has anyone had a problem with the wiring for the fogs. What I mean is that the wire size is like 18 or 16 gauage. Doesnt this thinner wire reduce the voltage able to go to the lights??

Yes it does, but I believe the HID kits only run 1 side, and only draw 35w compared to the 55w. The wire should be sufficient. Why? trouble?

Not trouble, but the PO ixnayed the relay for the fogs and just had the lights being controled solely bye the switch on the stalk. I noticed that when I went t use the blinkers it woud be exesively HOT. I knew that I had to fix up the relay so that I wouldnt melt the switch all the way. While I was in the relay box I noticed that the coil was being ran bye some thin 18/22 guage wire, and that was cool. But the switched power wire for the fogs was this thin *** orange wire. I used an old relay that was lying around which I believe was for the fan. Its got mmuch bigger wires on it. I ended up rewiring the fogs all together since the PO used speaker wire!!! YA... Anyways I used a nice thick 14 guage wire all the way fro mmthe battery to the relay and then to the fogs. The nly place that there was thin wire was where I had to splice on the sockets for the fogs. I noticed a major difference with the way my stock fogs were shinning. They were MADD brighter now and reacted faster with my alarm. (the flashing was not heasitated they came on hella fast) I think that the use of a relay from not having one definetly made a difference but im glad I upsized the wire too...

This was the old relay..crappy pic i know but those of you who have messed around with th efog relay can understand what Im showing..

This is the new one with nice monster sized wire!!!

Why not just get rid of the glare sheilds? Lights will be brighter! I did this on mine and the increase in light on the road was noticeable! I dont think youd have to worry about glare since the fogs are so low, but I have never dealt with hid fogs so I cant say for sure.

Did you ever complete the install? If so, how did you fit the bulbs? Any pics of them on and installed?

I had some fractures in the fog's glass. I guess from pebbles and crap and when I was handeling them they both broke. I got a set of lexas capsules that im going to put in but the easest thing that I would recomend is just drilling out the reflector!!!!

The easiest thing is to drill out the reflector? Did you do this before the fog glass broke? How did it go if you did? My bulbs are too big and im trying to figure out what to do.

What you're hitting is not a reflector. It's just a plastic "cap" to shield light in the way there's a shield in a projector. It's simply so you don't blind people by shining light up into their eyes. I assume you have a 97+? In the 95-96's there is something totally different, almost like a metal bracket that hangs down in front of the bulb that can actually be bent out of the way (I did it when I was stock just to make the fogs appear brighter).

It is a metal deflector not plastic. But the easest thing is to drill threw but make sure the metal arm of the HID bulb does NOT tuch the reflector or it will spark. You wil blind people a little bit just focus the bulbs a little more towards the street.

Yeah the cover is to stop the light from blinding people. Luckily the fogs are low to the ground so its not a huge concern. I had to remove the shield to put my lexus capsules in and didnt put them back in. I dont have the black circle that i did before, but they are also kinda blinding if you bend down and look at them. From a drivers perspective they are fine in terms of not blinding people though. Never been flashed yet.

I was under the impression it was plastic. My apologies. My point was made, though.
