Technosquare ECU seemingly not doing its job
Technosquare ECU seemingly not doing its job
OK, I have a MEVI, which I know is suppost to add top-end power but take away from the mid-range. To counteract this, I sent my ECU off to Technosquare to get it tuned and customized to my mods. After having the ECU for quite some time now, I've come to the conclusion that my mid-range still sucks. The auto tranny seems very bogged down and sluggish when downshifting into the mid-range zone. Don't get me wrong, the car screams from 5200k to redline (although I wish I had a 7200k revv limiter) when the MEVI kicks in, but I really don't feel anything in the butt-dyno in terms of mid-range gains from the ECU. So my question is: Is the JWT programming better at restoring lost power from the MEVI, or is it the same programming as Technosquare? Are you still suppost to feel some lack in mid-range even with the upgraded ECU? Could there be something else that's making my mid-range power suffer? I like a car that's peppy in the low and mid-ranges, and I know you guys are gonna say "Well then you shouldn't have gotten a MEVI!" Well, I figured that the upgraded ECU would take care of the MEVI midrange downfall...
You have just gotten used to your car...that happened to me with the jwt, but my TS is new so I havent gotten used to it yet. Any codes to speak of? Might want to data log if you are worried.
interested in some knowledgable responses to his thread as well.
its my understanding that the mevi is only beneficial on the top end, but i would think that a reflashed ecu would take advantage of other mods in the lower-mid range. maybe "being used to it" is effecting the perception of slight low-mid range gains.
not to thread jack, but is ts doing 98 reflashes?

Do other autotragic owners with a MEVI and an upgraded ECU feel the same effects as me??
Can you notice a difference between the JWT and the TS on the butt-dyno? I would tend to agree with you on the "getting used to it" theory, but i just feel like the car was so much peppier with the USIM and the stock ECU than the MEVI and the TS ECU. I just want the ECU to replenish my lost midrange with the MEVI! the sluggishness in low rpms makes the car feel so "old-ladyish" until you reach higher RPMs. some of that also may be due to the auto tranny though. With a 5-speed, it seems like it wouldn't bog down so much...

I do notice that the TS seems to be a bit more aggressive in driving. Now I do have a 70mm throttle body but that wont effect much in terms of midrange. More of a low and way high end mod. What RPMs are you feeling the most "sluggish"? What is your switch set at? Also what are the size of your wheels and their weight?

If he or I actually dynoed our car with and without the TS ecu we would notice a increase in peak HP and TQ by at least 5 to 10 in both categories.
TS doesnt do 4th gen reflashed anymore. They dont like our ecus. The MEVI only has the midrange problem because of the butterfly valves...They do not fully close off the short runners when not engaged. So that is why people feel the midrange torque loss.

I guess what I'm getting at is that the car seems (from the butt-dyno only) to be just as fast with the MEVI and TS ECU and it was with the USIM and the stock ECU, the power band has just shifted toward the upper RPM's instead of being even throughout the RPM range. I just feel like the ECU should have done a better job restoring the lost mid-range of the MEVI. Is there anything else that could take away from mid-range power that is unrelated to the MEVI or the ECU?
Could a Stillen exhaust with a lot of miles on it begin to slow the car down a little as opposed to a brand new one? I feel like the exhaust has gotten more "droney" over time in the mid-range area. Do exhausts eventually dampen performance when the mileage gets high on them?
I have an auto and I dont feel it at all. like I said I had a jwt first and I actually didnt like it because it made the autos gears way way to long...The TS ecu has slightly more timing advancement and the fuel maps seems to be better. I have data logged both ecus and the TS has a few degrees more of timing. I havent yet seen the AFR on the TS because I dont have my AFR reader anymore.

Also, my wheels are from a 2k5 se. They are relatively heavy, but not chrome or anything like that. I don't know the exact weight. I'm sure it's online somewhere. Maybe 30 pounds a piece (???)
My switch for the MEVI is set at 5200 rpm, which is supposedly the optimal point to engage. It feels sluggish in the 1.7k-3k rpm range (something around there). I notice it most when I'm cruising at, let's say, 45mph, then I'll push the gas to medium throttle (about half way down) for a downshift. Thats when it feels especially sluggish is during that downshift.

If I go from say 45ish or a little faster than the deadness is negated pretty much. If that is where you are talking about then the only real way I can conceive to get rid of it would be a raised rev limit...
I also have 15 lbs wheels on my max and I still have it...
hmm, interesting theory...
I'm glad it's happening to someone else as well, I thought it was just me. Thanks for the input!
If anyone else would like to shed some insight also... the more comments, the better!
