Universal Oxygen Sensor?

Hey guys I ordered a o2 sensor from ebay (universal). It has 4 wires: 2 white, 1 black and 1 gray. Can someone (who has done it before) tell me what colors to connect them too on the car harness?

as a sidenote, what brand did you get? I would search the manufacturers website and look at a FSM, compare the two and you should be able to install fairly easy

Where are you using the sensor front or rear? What brand is the sensor? Does the sensor have any markings or instructions that indicate which is 12VDC wire, shield wire, signal wire?

The directions should state the purpose of each wire on the univesal sensor if you can provide the info I may be able to tell you how to hook up to Maxima.

For rear sensor

Black = signal to Maximas white wire
gray = ground to Maximas black wire
white= heater positive or ground to Maximas red wire
whiter = heater positive or ground to Maximas red with brown stripe wire.

The fuse for this circuit is #34 15Amp (just in case you have any problems).

I can not absolutely guarantee this is correct but I have checked the factory service manual wiring diagram and I have worked with automotive and industial electronics for may years so I my information is fairly reliable. Let me know how you do.

I did some research and am confident that my instructions are correct. The two white wires are for the heater in the sensor. One of those wires goes to 12VDC and the other goes to ground through the ECM that is why the red wire is labeled 02HRR at the ECM. A heater is like a coil so polarity does not matter.

One more thing, the way I am suggesting you hook up the two white heater wires is exactly like the heater wires are connected on the rest of the heated O2 sensors on the Maxima.

I'm trying to explain why my instructions are correct but it really does not matter. Just hook up wires as I instructed. You are welcome, let me know how it goes.

Hope you are soldering your connections and make sure wires are not connected to ECM when you do so.

Yep, taking off the battery terminal, unplug harness, and solder connections. It came with some butt connectors, BUT solder + shrinkwrap > cheap *** butt connectors

What was so hard about it? Getting the old sensor loose? Maybe sensor was chanced before? I never actually changed one but had to remove them when changed Y-Pipe.

Is it fixed?

Know how you are feeling, auto repairs can sometimes do that to a person.
