97 Maxima Auto VS 97 3.5L Intrepid

Just curious, what do you guys think would win from 0-80mph? A '97 Maxima SE automatic or a 97 Intrepid with the 3.5 L (214hp, 225lbft torque) v-6 without the autostick? I have raced many cars with the Intrepid and it has beat most of them (countless integras, civics, accords, '90 toyota supra, bonneville's, etc), but never raced a Maxima. I eventually want to get rid of the Intrepid for a '97 Maxima, but it will be a 5-speed.

Compared to your 5spd, yes they lack that extra pazazz you get. Compared to MOST cars on the road ? Hell no. Auto max's (especially 95's) are faster than most cars on the road.

Intrepids are slow as *****. To bulky, and lack of engine refinment to be quick. A max would have it's @ss easily.

Look, I rented a 01 Intrepid SE w/200hp V6 and it was the slowest piece of sh*t I've ever seen. I lost to a 240sx, got smoked by an automatic Galant, and Barely and I mean barely beat a Mercury Mountaineer. So an auto max should definetly win.

Is this a joke?...

More horsepower does NOT necessarily equal faster. This is a perfect example. Maxima wins hands down.

the 3.5l does 0-60 in 8.3sec with out the auto stick,i had a 97 and would kill auto maximas and pre 97 q45's(until i hit the speed governor) once i retarded the timing with a msd ignition controller, hey kingrukus i still have if you intrested.

ok...with this engine i have ripped many cars...i have driven my cousins 97 maxima GXE auto and it felt slower than my intrepid...we have never gone head to head though. i will next time i see him however. with this 3.5 intrepid, i have been able to destroy countless integras, accords, civics, the odd toyota supra, an 85 cutlass 442, and tons of other cars. i have only been beaten by a dodge stealth (non twin turbo) and a 300m who got a mad jump on me at the line. to call this car slow would be a gross understatement. the new intrepids (98+) are slow as *****. i drove the 200hp 99 and it had a hard time passing a school bus.

I put my $ on the Intrepid since they have more torque down low/ After about 60 or 70 the Max will catch and win. The Intrepids seem to gasp for air at high speeds. (Father in Law had one). Took forever to get over 100 but 60 came up in a flash. Race the Intrepid from a roll on and you will definitely win. Plus Intrepids have traction control to help off the line.

I had a 2000 intrepid as a rental once... it was very slow compared to my 5spd, but the cornering was the saddest thing I have ever experienced....

stop speculatiing and run stock vs. stock! Then you'll see who wins. I have no speculations, as I haven't driven one, or gone up against one. 3.5L doesn't mean it will win the race though...just look at the final gen of the SHO! v8 and a sled!

I have raced an R/T interpid with my 5 speed and beat it but it was fast. I was impressed. Lots of torque in the intrepid and my car was faster with the 15's on my gxe back then. I still won by a car length but I was scared of losing because that intrepid picks up the pace over 30 mph. If you have an automatic...I personally would not race it, but maybe you will win if your max isn't stock. Technically the R/T isn't stock so figure it that way. I don't think the R/T is governed either because it was at about 120 mph and still had some to give (WHo knows...maybe this one was modded and I did not know).

sadly enough

People where I live think that an R/T interpid is the phatest ride in the city. That is until the SUNY students come back with their M3s and S2000. Thank god for european and asian designed automobiles. Who knows where cars would be at if AMerican engineers disigned everthing!!! We would still be using big blocks as our "fast" cars.

I ran a 300M w/ 250hp, and all the way to about 95mph, I was pulling, the he started pulling on me like I had hit a wall. Must have been the 5 spd auto-stick

But on a serious note, my father has the 300M, yes it has more power, but the car is HEAVY. He was talking one day, and I had to put our long time arguement to rest. I got him. It was close, but I got him.

Re: Re: Well...

Thought the R/t first was introduced in 98 but it could have been 97 as said before. Just check on edmunds.com...they will have it. Wasn't the R/T line cosnisting of the Neon......hehehehe....um...the intrepid, some truck, and I think that was it. But I could be wrong. Chrysler has soooo many FAST cars I can't keep track. THe PT crusier is fast too, especially with those flames on it....30 hspwr gain just for the flames...then the Mille Miglia phony rims...that is another 20 hspwr...I'm scared

My last car was a 1994 Dodge Intrepid. I now have my 1998 Max 5 speed. Trust me the Intrepid is no where near as fast as my max and yes I had the 3.5 in my INtrepid.

I have a 95 Eagle Vision TSi which is the same as the Intrepid (3.5L) and it is very slow when up against even a stock auto Max... great pickup from like 75-90 but slow from 0-120...

R/t came out with the new gen Intrepid which appeared in 1997 as a 1998 model. A friend of mine has a 96 3.5l Vision and it is no where near my 97 not to mention my 02 auto. It takes off so slow!

My Grandmother has a '96 with the 3.5L. When I drove it I was sooooo disappointed. I was expecting it to haul a$$, I mean 214 HP is decently impressive, but it was slow as hell. It winds up soooo slow, it's like there is somethign wrong with it. It's torquey but it just doesn't wind up fast. The new 3.5L in the new Chryslers does though, my Grandfather has a 2000 LHS and it's pretty fast, though my Maxima would smoke it.
