CB radio static noise common in Maximas?

Hi,

I just installed a 510 cb radio with the K40 antenna..when the car is on and idling I get too much static noise...when I shut off the car, the static is gone...my a.m. car radio is never this bad.

I checked all connections and everything seems fine..It was also grounded. Any clues?? Or are these maximas just "noisy"?

Thanks

I only get it on my FM when there is a nearby running radar.

Wouldnt it have been cheaper and less problematic to get a cell phone?

I had a small window-mounted antenna that worked just fine:

You may want to try heavier gauge wire for your power. Also, perhaps a suppressor would help: http://www.www.premiere-electronics.net/store/cbnf.html. Lastly, make sure to run your antenna wire away from other wires in the car.

Thanks sparky...but I hope it's more that just a filter...I have a ANL (noise reduction) switch on my 510 already....I guess this plugs into my fusebox and the cb radio into suppressor.
Yes, the wires run along the passenger side with no other wires.

Heavier gauge wires?? hummm..didn't think about that one. I just used the little thin wires that came with the unit. Think that will make a difference?? (I would hate to re-write the dam thing again).

Thanks!

okay, before i was just thinking it would be kind of silly to have a cb radio, than i realized i dont even know what you would need one for, so I am asking:

what do you use your cb radio for? over.

I got my cb mostly in order to coordinately group drives better. The other thing I used it for was to listen to truckers (sometimes they warn you about cops)

adding to sparky, make sure you have a good ground also. most of the time, static and that buzzing noise when you car is running is "dirty" power. i dont kno where u are getting ur power from, try and get it from the fuse box where more power is available than just the cig lighter. also better power will allow ur signal to transmit the furthest it can.

+1 for group drives, lot better than cell phones for talking to a group and no chance of a ticket.
