Hit a pothole, now shakes
I was driving along and here comes a huge pot hole. I had a car on my left, curb on the right, and a car on my ***. I had no choice but to hit it. And boy did I! There is no visable damange. But when I drive over 50 mph the left front wheel (the one that hit the hole) starts to shake. Kinda like the wheel is off balanced.
What do you recommend? FYI: I plan on getting a new car within the next 6 months but need it to last until then. The cheapest fixed would be best.
Thanks!!

you also could have bent the rim
i did this with a volvo hitting a pothole in nyc. the thing was like 2 feet deep.
a couple of weeks later this woman broke her leg stepping into it in the rain and sued the city for 15 million......

The tire presure was low so it could be a bent rim. I made an appointment at the local shop for Saturday to have them check it out. The strut is about shot anyway so it would surprise me if thats done now. I'll see what the shop recommends

Can you really bend an axle on a pothole? That seems really unlikely considering you have cv joints at 2 points, the joints would likely move before you could bend an axle. I can maybe see this is your axles are old and the cv joints were on thier way out and sticking or something or somehow bend the joint beyond it's ability...which would really be prevented by the spring/strut travel anyway.

befpre you bring it to the shop just rotate the driver side in your driveway.should make a difference.an alignment will not help you in any way.put the driver front on driver rear and driver rear on the front.should solve your problem......

x2 if you are looking for the cheapest fix possible its worth a shot. Just make sure there is no bubble in the tire, blowouts are nothing to play around with.

and what are you going to do with that bad wheel/tire? leave it on there?? bad suggestion IMO. the problem will still persist no matter how you look at it whether it be an alignment problem or a bent, unbalanced wheel. jeez what kind of suggestions are you people giving... terrible.
get it done once, get it done right. take it to a shop and have them check it out to make sure the wheel is straight and balanced. It shouldnt cost you anything to have them look at it. if the wheel is straight and balanced and you are still having issues, have an alignment done. usually just hitting a curb at a good enough speed will knock your alignment off. as far as bent axles, i VERY HIGHLY doubt it.

if you sell the car, its not going to sell all too well with a problem like that. driving like that for 6 more months... well its your fault if your tire blows off or wheel cracks into pieces (worst that can happen and you crash).

I would be thankful that the pothole was not deep enough or It could of bent your frame from where your strut mounts (top of the frame) and a bad lower control arm and you would of been just sitting there waiting for some help. I would check the tire out for lumps and some dents and I would check out the rims also. I would check for suspension damage anything looking bent or crooked. I would definitly do the alignment for the car Good luck.

hey man ,whats your problem you e thug.he asked for THE CHEAPEST WAY TO FIX IT. maybe you should read the first post ****95.balancing that wheel will not help it that much.putting it on the back will help 10X more than simply balancing it and leaving on the front. actually right rear will help the most if its not rotational. any ont that knows anything about automobiles will tell you that you effing newbie! IF YOU CANT HELP THE POST DONT POSE THAN.WHATS THE PROBLEM. to op just rotate the passenger side you will thank me.

yeah my bad for the *****ing lol but his rim is bent from hitting the pothole.also when he hit it, it probably whacked his toe out a little bit. have it spun and if its salvageable, balance and put on vehicle.than do the alignment. for both those are probably around $80 bucks or so.is the tire/wheel holding air? worst comes to worst, you need a new wheel and tire plus alignment. but definatly try and rotate that one to the back first. and yes mr****95 the problem will still be there and thats not the right thing to do but he seems like a dumb cheapass
