Boring out throttle-body?...

My mechanic said I should bore-out my throttle body for maximum performance out of an intake. Why have I not seen any .Orgers do this? Is it expensive or just impossible on a Maxima?
Thanks,
Cyrus

I think it can't get much bigger,

and it could get costly.

I was lookin in my dads Tahoe magazine, ( every aftermarket part imaginable is available for it ), and the bigger throttle body was $499, claiming a 5-10 horse increase which I think is BS. So thats about what you'd be lookin at for minimal if any gains. I'm sure its worth it if you go bore happy with some other parts though.

extrude honed is what i have seen doing some searches. what i have found is do the TB and INTAKE manifold.

Maybe a bigger diameter TB. not just a bore but like 1/2 inch bigger?? my 2 cents

it'll yield gains but it's not worthwhile unless you open up the rest of the intake flow (port/polished upper intake plenum OR extrude honed, more aggressive cams, valve/head job, etc)

hmm maybe try to gut one from a 2k+

if i remember right they had two new things 1. a new tb and plumbing, and 2. the bypass valve on the exhaust. If it fits great.
Try that

moreover if you have no boost then wuts the point. from what i've read about this, minimal gains are produced na, but the most is seen only if u go the forced induction route. still it is something to think about.

This is one of the misconceptions floating around on the forum.

How do you make more power? By bringing in more air (and adding more fuel, spark, and compressing it). By freeing up the exhaust-side of the system, you allow more air to be pumped in. By freeing up the intake-side of the system, you allow more air to be pumped in.

THe above mentioned parts will increase the flow into the combustion chamber. Due to the 3.5L nature of the engine, gains will be generally better than a 3.0L engine. I have no clue what the intake and exhaust plumbing looks like yet but knowing Nissan engineers, there are definately area for improvements.

It's not cheap but if you want XXX hp via all motor, it is possible.

Think about this;

The maxima, when it went from Gen4 to Gen5 went from 190 to 227 hp. Did the throttle body increase in size?? Don't think so. The limiting factor seems to have been the intake manifold. So, if you increae the throttle body size, you've still got the bottleneck from the intake manifold.
