Alternator whine
Alternator whine
Whats up guys, i just got my alternator replaced after it died, now i have that dreaded alternator whine. what causes that? How do you fix it??? thanks in advanced
sure it's not your AC bearing? new alt shouldn't squeal. could also be your tensioner pulley. did you do the job or have it done? check the belt tension and see if it's too tight by chance. you can always place a screwdriver on the housing of the AC and the alt (not at the same time obviously
) and feel for vibration and also place your ear on your hand, hand on the end of the screwdriver and listen for any "clunk" or spinning noise.

Hmmn ok, i dont know that much about cars really
but the noise /sound i'm refering to is for instance, when i accelerate, that"whining sound" increases and it's pitch comes down as i slow down. it feels as if it's taking an unusual amout of power from somewhere? i just know it wasnt doing that before i got my alternator replaced the other day

I replaced my altenator to get rid of my noise but it didnt work so someone suggested replacing my ac compressor bearing so I'll be doing that soon. I found this thread for more info. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....=compressor+ac
if you had a shop do it, take it back and complain that that sound is new. i'm willing to bet it is not the alt, but it could be .... the shop should tell you what it is, and how much to fix it. post here prior to giving them your money tho ... check with the .Org and see if it's a "fair" price or not to make that stop. I will tell you from my own experience, if it is the AC bearing .... getting that clutch disk off is a PIA! hard core!
