99, 140k miles, need new suspension. what am i looking at for cost?

Ive got a 99 with 140k miles on it and I need new suspension. What kind of cost am I looking at? I bought the car at 97k miles and had the 100k service done myself. Based on the care the paint received by the previous owner id say nothings been done with the suspension.

1. all i have "performance" wise is a FSTB and a K&N
2. not interested a drop if it means extra cost
3. i dont race or push the engine hard very often
4. im not comfortable DIYing something my life depends on

A. What parts do i need, where do i get them, and how much do they cost?
B. What should i expect to pay for labor?

Thanks!

ok,so all you really need is new suspensions then.this can be done with the help of friends or other org members that live near you.

Well, that's kind of a broad description, but your swaybar end links may need changing by now if you've never done them. If you don't want to do these things yourself, the best thing you can do is get the car on a lift and have your mechanic tell you exactly what you need. So far, I've changed my lower control arms, engine mounts, passenger side axle, swaybar end links, springs, struts and strut mounts/bearings. I'll be doing the inner and outer tie rods soon.

If he determines that you need new LCA's, etc, You can find pretty good package deals on suspension parts on ebay. Some people love them some hate them, but the best thing you can probably do if you go that route is look at the seller's feedback history and judge how satisfied that their customers tend to be:

For struts, look for a set of Tokico HP's (blues). You won't need new springs since you're not looking to drop the car. Once you do all of that, your ride will be good again!

How much do you think your car is worth?

You'll most likely looking at close to $1000.00 to do over the suspension, like the other guy said, take it to a mechanic and have him check it out for you, he'll tell you what you need to fix.

Maximas are reliable cars but parts aren't that cheap, if you're not the mechanic type and you don't want to deal with the hassle of repairs and at times costly ones, it might be better to sell the car now and get something with a warranty.

Speaking to the author of this thread. The info this guy gave you was very helpful, but scary. dont worry you shouldnt jump to conclutions on your problem. If you have a friend who is a michanic have he/she take a look at it(hopefully for free). If no friend then go to the cheapest michanic around and ask them to look at it.

Then when they tell you whats wrong you should tell us on the forum the parts they want and the cost. We can tell you whats worth doing and if it is a good price.

Also you should look in the regonal forum section and maybe find a person in your area that could help you do some of the work.

Just take you time with things when there is time to take. dont panic just yet. you prob dont have to sell you max.

just as someone said, they are great cars, and the parts are indeed expensive. But if you dont want to spend to get it fixed, sell it then.

Please...

Toss a set of Tokico Blue HP front struts and rear shocks in for under 300 bucks. Inspect all the ball joints & control arm bushings for any play, if it ain't broke, leave it alone. Most likely everything should be fine. If you need sway bar end links, they are ~20 each aftermarket.
An alignment will cost you ~50 bucks.

There's a basic suspension overhaul, under $400 bucks. If you can't DIY the struts and shocks, put up another ~$200 for labor.

Again, inspect everything and it it ain't broke and doesn't have any play leave it alone.

Replacement suspension

I am replacing my suspension with all stock OEM parts from an online re-seller, dealer out in Arizona. Did the rears first now I am doing the fronts. I live in NJ and it's costing me about a grand so far. The car is a '95 SE with 144,000 miles on it. I will sell it eventually but I do love the car. It hangs with the best and when I come to Brooklyn someone always wants to make an offer. Bottom line it's an investment and a classic but Nissan replacement parts aren't cheap
