Alternative to JWT ecu's!!
Hey guys, we might have another company that can make up daughter boards for our 95 to 98 ecu's. They are a local shop hear in Kingsport TN of a places but the guy's moved here from California and they specialize in Nissans .They have a KA24DETT that holds the record of putting out 1600 hp so these guys know there stuff. I talked to Scott one of the shop owners and the guy that does the tuning and he said he could make me a board set up for the mods I have on my car instead of the One program fits all the Jim Wolf uses. I told him I had a Jwt ecu and after we talked about the great customer service you get with JWT(Scott knows him well) he said that he could program my computer for my mods plus for the climate that I live in. He travels around the US to import car shows and race events and sets up dyno sessions so the cool thing about that is after traveling all over the US he has a plethora of info about the climates in different area's of the U.S. saved from all the tuning he has done on the road so if he can see a demand and is able to reprogram our ecus he can custom make you a daughter board for your ecu to fit your mods plus the area where you live. Before you greddy emanage guys start flaming me this is for the guys that don't work on there car's all the time an just want a plug and play unit. I was planning on getting an E-manage ultimate but since Scott is so close he said he could tune my car in no time. The only Nissan ecu he has not worked on is a 95 to 98 maxima ecu. He's worked on every other Nissan ecu including a 94 maxima turbo that's throwing down over 400hp on the dyno. I'm dropping my car off at his shop Thursday and after he fixes some of the fuel issues I've had from my 3.5 swap he is going to do some R&D and try to rewrite my ecu.I will keep everyone up to date with the progress on this.You can visit his web site athttp://www.yellowmunsontuning.com/

Seems like a good idea.
But the whole weather/ambient conditions thing seems a bit strange/iffy to me. The MAF takes care of that for the most part, so IMO, it would essentially be a JWT unit at a possibly different price, with a possibly different (more or less aggressive) 'tune' with respect to what the MAF 'sees'.

The JWT is fairly aggressive in the AFR department. TS was said to be a bit more aggressive in the timing department. Exactly how much more aggressive would you want to get? Geez, is it possible for me to use that word any more!!

I not very knowledge when it comes to advanced tuning an ecu so I'm just going off what Scott has told me. The way he was explaining it to me is basically what you are saying that he will be tuning the ecu for the mods that you tell him similar to JWT but he will take into account the weather conditions for the area you live in, say a car from New Mexico would have different maps than a car that is running up north in colder climates with the same mods. Of course this is at wide open throttle because he says just what you are saying that the Maf should be able to compensate for everyday normal driving. After he fixes my fuel issues Friday I'll be taking my car back to my friends dyno to see what numbers I can get with the JWT ecu then I'll be taking it back to him to let him play with the ecu to see if he can improve on it. I did try to dyno Tuesday but after 5 pulls on the dyno I could not keep my fuel pressure from cutting out at around4800 rpm's.I did make 220 HP at 4700 though so I'm jazzed to see what this motor will do when I get everything right with it. I'll have more info on the ecu's after this weekend but one thing I can tell you is Scott doesn't fool around when it comes to getting something done. He constantly has people shipping in cars to him to work on from all over the U.S. so he is a real stickler about getting something in getting it fixed and getting it out of his shop so I don't expect there would be a long turn around time on the ecu's. I'll keep everyone updated on this.

total noob question but why doesnt it work on 99's? and would the only solution be an EU or SAFC etc

hopefully that works...its a plug and play that "supposably" either increases the rev limiter or brings out the FULL potential of the stock ecu, while still being stock. hopefully i read that right if not sorry. but yea thats pretty much it. IMO i would say that its a step above the ebay 10 hp chip gain. but I dont have it and can't find a decent write up on it so MO doesn't really count for that much

Yeah I was originally planning an EU for the springtime...but I don't think I have the time/patience for that. I'd rather get an ECU with extended rev-limit and then fine tune with the V-AFCII I already have. Not AS good...but good enough for not having to deal with the EU install.

If you install a Greddy Emanage Ultimate (EU) you can manually add fuel to raise the rev limit. From what I understand, it's not perfect, but it works well enough.
The EU will probably cost around the same as the JWT ECU....and you'll have to install it. The install is nothing to be taken lightly...it's quite a project. Check out vqpower.com and look for DandyMax's write up on the EU install. That may help you decide which route is for you.

I believe that emanage is both overkill and beyond my skill for the time being....

yes...it's probably overkill for you right now. if/when you get more and more performance mods...it might be more worth your while.
With the mods I have, I think I could benefit from it... but I don't know if I'm up to the task of installing.
