Corner Light Bulbs

The lights I'm talking about is:
http://www.carpartswholesale.com/ima...18-5250-00.JPG

I know that the bulbs used are 1157 (confirmed on sylvania replacement bulb guide) but I've been searching on the forums and some people say that you can use 1156 bulbs but a few are confusing the parking light with the turn signal/side marker.

So I'm starting this thread to ask if it's okay to replace my 1157 corner light bulb (link above) with a 1156 bulb (which is brighter) without modifying the bulb. I can't stress the word modify. No modifications but brighter.
Also, which is a good 1156 bulb to buy?
Maybe something like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1156-...em150229112776

Well you clearly did not get what I was asking.
Can I use a 1156 bulb for my 1999 max instead of the 1157 bulb for the corner lights without having to modify the bulb base/housing at all?

I dont think it will fit perfectly, but I agree w/ chuckles on that it probably isnt worth your time for such a little improvement. You coulld get the parts yyou need from a junkyard for next to nothing though.

Definitely not worth it. Just do the "brighter corner mod." I've been running it for almost the entire time I've owned the car (coming up on 3 years) and never had a problem with it. I even run silverstar 1157 bulbs which don't last as long and mine still last between 9 months and a year. As it is, with them on the "high" setting all the time, they are bright as heck. I can drive around with just them and my fog lights on as long as I don't need to see real far away and feel fine...and that's coming from someone with bixenon projectors.

The 2357 is a brighter bulb and fits stock 1157 sockets. It is actually a really common modification done in the motorcycle world. The low filament is the same lumens as the 1157, but the high filament provides more light (40 lumens v. 32 in the 1157).

Thanks guys for the input. I'll look into the brighter corner mod but was just looking to replace my bulbs because they're starting to get really dim. Wasn't looking for a huge project. Just to replace the 1157 bulbs and was wondering if I could use the 1156 to have a brighter bulb since I'm already replacing it.

It's not a huge project. You clip off a nub with nail clippers and insert the bulb differently.

Could you explain what you mean by clip off the nub? lol
I've been searching through and reading about it but I can't find out details on what exactly this -nub- is. I also read that you can sand it down?
Which is the best way to do this? Simple drawing/diagram on what part to cut/sand down? I'm running out of things to do to my car (don't want to spend $4000 on a SC) and lately I've been obsessed with brighter lighting. (Living near the desert/mountains = need more light)

*edit

Nevermind, I just saw it in another thread similar to mine.
Here it is:

This mod is very simple, but since theres tons of different writeups on it out there, and lots of rumors, it can be confusing. But this is a great way to help your Max look better. Here goes:

Stuff you need: Phillips head screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, nailclippers, electrical tape

1)Remove your clearance light housing. It's pretty simple, just pop the hood and remove the screw that holds it in. With a little bit of tugging, you can pull the side closest to the doors (not the front side) out (it goes behind a little plastic flap). look down into the hood and find the little ball joint socket that holds the clearance light in. take a screwdriver (flathead) and pop it out of that socket. there the light is out.

2)Remove the bulb from the light by twisting it and pulling it out. Place the clearance light housing onto the ground.

3)In your hand you should have the bulb in socket connected to the wires for it. The bulb can be removed from its socket by being twisted and then pulled out. do so now.

4)Look at the bulb closely. On the metal base (below the glass) you can see two metal "nubs." Take fingernail clippers and snip the one CLOSEST TO THE GLASS (the higher one).

5)Cut a strip of electrical tape about 2 inches long and 1/4 inch high. Wrap this tape around the spot where the nub was so that it covers the spot (but not the other nub). This is to ensure a secure connection in the socket.

6)Look down into the socket of the bulb. You can see two notches where the nubs were to be secured (one for the higher nub and one for the lower nub). The bulb, however, now has only one nub (the lower one). Heres the tricky part: you want to put the bulb in so that the lower nub (the remaining one) goes in the spot that the higher nub was supposed to (dont worry if the electrical tape gets pushed a bit).

7) Now that the bulb is back in socket, replace the socket in the housing but dont put the housing back on yet. Flip your lights on to make sure that the job worked (I haven't seen it fail when you use electrical tape). Once your confident that it worked replace the housing (make sure its in there!).

8)Repeat on other side.

Actually I had a question. When you say -higher nub- you're talking about the nubs on the side right?

Here:

Thanks, just went and did this. It's a lot brighter and I'm impressed. I guess I don't need to replace my bulb until it burns out now.

Thanks for your help guys!

A warning, the bulbs WILL burn out faster this way. Don't worry about it, though, they're cheap and by faster I mean in a year instead of two.

lol thanks for the heads up. Can I also do this mod for the stop light or will it light up like I'm braking the whole time and when I do actually brake, nothing would happen?

You've got it right. Pretty much if you want better lights out back, you're going to have to go LED. Either the LED bulbs, or true LED tail lights.

Thanks for clearing that up. It was obvious but I like things confirmed by more experienced members.

Tatanko, can I PM you about rewiring my bumper and signal lights so they stay on with my clearance and headlights?
I've searched the forums but none of the links that they provided for the mod work anymore.
