LIghts Blink with stereo cranked up
I noticed today when i turned up the volume on my stereo ( no amps or subs yet, just pioneer head and 6 1/2's). my lights inside would blink and stuff when bass would hit ,,, is my battery going deal , or my alternator bad or something ? i dont have any underdrive pulleys or anything so it cant be from that drain,,, maybe a belt is going bad or is loose and its not turning on the alternator right ??? or do i just need a better battery ?

Maybe all of the above. My battery and alternator took a powder in the same time frame. When the lights start blinking, you're close to stalling. Get to a service center ASAP... Good luck.

you both need a "Farad Capacitor"... either .5 or 1.0 farad cap.. look them up around, you can get one for about 50 bucks or more depending on name.. it is placed before the power wire hits the amp.. stores power so the battery doesnt get juiced..
if you dont have a power wire going to an amp... get a better battery or a bigger alternator.

Had same prob, headlights and neons dim. Just got an optima yellow top and it's beautiful. Quick starts, no light dims. Got one new for 185 CAD which is about 115 USD. If your near toronto, let me know and I can get you this deal.

The red and yellow are different.
You need the yellow if your running more stuff (amps, aftermarket alarm etc.).
If you are stock the red will be fine.
Battery status monitor
BTW, I also got a battery status monitor made http://www.reconnsworld.com/power_lm3914battmon.html and now just thinking of a place to mount it. It displays using leds how much juice is left on the battery. It's not 100% acurate but at least you get some indication.
I have an 1200 watt system in my car, and I found that in order to stop ALL blinking (even the slightest amount) with Capacitors, you need 1 Farad for every 500 watts (I have 2 1 Farad Caps in my car, and they still blink ever-so-slightly).
But if you don't care all that much and just don't want it to be really noticable, a 1 Farad Cap will work fine for 1000 watts.....just expect to still have a small amount of dimming.
An Optima battery with one 1 Farad Cap should work nicely...that's my next upgrade.
