are STRUT BARS effective at all??

im looking to get strut bars for my max, i dont know whether i should bother spending my time and money on something that wont work.

what should i expect out of getting this?

is just the front necessary or do both make a major difference?

Possible a reduction in dash squeaks tad more stability in sweeping corners. Considering the $15 bars and the $150 Stillen bars do the same thing the $15 bar is not a bad use of money. They take maybe 2-3 minutes to install so not too much of a time investment....

It also helps ur Strut towers to stay more in line when using using a lot of TQ... I remember an STi that has 450WHP and he didn't have a strut bar and his windshield cracked from not having one... It was weird.

Maybe crossing train tracks and traversing transitions where the body would flex. My car just seemed to "flex" a tad more but I am on FIRM springs.

strut tower bars dont really do squat, spend that money elsewhere

best thing for suspension = tires, full bushing kit, coilovers, good alignment

try a cheap ebay one. I really noticed the difference when my struts were f****d. When you install it, jack the car up and tighten the bar so it's pushing outwards as much as possible. Then when you put the car down, it'll be sort of preloaded. It helps a bit.

best thing for suspension = coilovers
Not for MY daily driver....

just get some konis and springs of your choice. you won't be slammed, but you'll handle well without sacrificing reliability and noise, etc.

It's a feel-good mod. It's a popular first mod because they are cheap and easy to install. I don't care what anyone says -any benefits are imagined. You'll never notice an improvement. I took mine off for weight reduction (or would that be weight restoration??).

It helps on sharp corners. It does help because some cars come from the factory with them. I don't imagine auto manufacturers throwing money away on "feel good mods"

I bought a courtesy bar years ago. I've run with it on and off. I can't tell any difference.

Even less consequential is the rear strut tower bar.

RSTB may not make much of any difference but the front did make a difference on my car, steering response is sharper, its not going to make a huge like night and day difference, but i noticed immediately the difference the FSTB made when i took the car through a couple of corners. some one above said a suspension mod, dont think of it as that, think of it more as chassis stiffening then it makes sense

Not sure about the difference between 4th and 5th gens when it comes to a FSTB. I just installed one on my 5.5 gen last night and took it for a test drive and could DEFINITELY feel a difference...and I wasn't just imagining it. My front end felt a lot more solid, and it definitely glides around turns more smoothly. Not a huge difference, but worth whatever money you spend (I went with the pricey Stillen one).

If you really want some tight cornering, you have to get some stickers, that's the best mod for you money. I noticed a dramatic improvement in performance with some stickers.

strut bars reinforce the chassis to reduce flex. therefore making your suspension work properly transferring all the bumps and vibrations to the struts instead of to the chassis and wherever else. think of the bars as lines that complete a cube. makes the structure more rigid.

I added a strut bar to the front of my ve and noticed the difference around corners immediately. My car doesn't roll as much as it did before. I don't have to reduce my speed in cloverleafs as much either. I'm looking foar a back one too.

Yeah, I failed, but honestly i felt the strut bars made a little bit of difference. They can't hurt I guess, I have them on both of my cars.

You can definitely tell the difference when you are not lowered. I first got mine unlowered and it was like driving a different car, the car wouldn't feel like its about to flip over when taking a turn. If you are already lowered you wouldn't really feel much because you already lowered the car's center of gravity making it handle better in a turn. They are cheap so why not?

Eh, FSTB did a little bit, but nothing in comparison to the RSB. But then again, it's all about how much you want to spend. You pay more you get more....usually.

You guys are all washed up. Does anyone here want to bet me $1,000 that they could tell, in a blind test, if a FSTB was installed or not? I'll randomly take it on/off of your car when you are not looking and you can then drive your car. We'll do this 10 times. If you get it correct 10/10 - heck 8/10 - you win. Takers?

Nothing beats a low profile, wide set of Z rated tires (Ex. 235 45 17). That's the best thing you can do for handling. Followed closely by lowering/sport suspension. Forget about the FSTB and RASB.

Sounds very tempting as well. I DID noticed a difference when I put my front strut bar on but that was a while back when I was stock in suspension. Now I got springs/shocks and the rsb with a new set of 235/45/17. Not sure if it'll make as much an effect as before.

On a stock setup, you do feel a difference in the front end rolling/flexing when you make a turn. It doesn't even have to be a fast turn, just slow city driving. I noticed it when I pulled out of my driveway.

What about GR2's for struts and a stillen adjustable sway bar?

What are some of the best sport suspension changes some of you 4th generation owners have made?
