odometer/trip quit

So my odometer quits right as it was turning from 143999 over to 144000. The trip quit as well. I just took the cluster apart to look at it closely. Anyone know if I can take apart the speedo and try to fix it? Or is it just a lost cause? Anyone that can point me in the right direction would be must appreciated.

I did a search, but none of them tell if I can fix the cluster I have by doing some surgery on it.

Does your speedo work?

You could try, but it really isn't worth it IMO. Just grab a used cluster with ~same amount of miles on it from the classifieds or a junkyard.

Yeah, the speedo works. I guess that might be my best option. But I was just curious if anyone had any experience with taking the odometer apart and got it working again.

some people have said wd-40 or some other lubricant have fixed it. Mostly what happens is that it doesnt actually break, but it just gets stuck.

I'm having the same issue, but the speedo not working also. It's intermediate. I'm hoping its a lose connection, going to check this afternoon.

It's fun driving trying to guess your speed

if its working intermittently then chances are the part is failing. get yourself a new speedo head from courtesy nissan and they will calibrate the mileage and send you the new part. you can install it yourself very easy to do. I had the same problem so i speak from experience.

I got the same problem when the speed sensor's harness broken. Speedometer started working intermittently and after 3 days dropped to zero. After fixing the harness (it is near the starter) speedo starts working.
But I still have the problem with odometer. It is not completely stuck, just rolling 10 times slower than could to. I have a neutral/park gage code (M/T) and no back-up lights. May be this is the case.
